Been doing the traditional Bank Holiday DIY stint, and based on my experience, came up with the following:

1. It's going to take longer than you think.
2. Make sure you have sufficient plasters/bandages in your first aid box,.
3. You will never buy everything you need in one trip to the DIY store.
4. You will always find out that there's a tool required that you don't have....
5. ....Or you do have one, but it's broken.
6. Non-drip paint does.
7. Materials usually come in one of four sizes: Too small, too much, too big to fit in the car, or too f*****g heavy to pick up.
8. You will always hang on to the offcuts/half empty tins of paint 'just in case they come in useful'.
9. Water and electricity do not go together.
10. Never step back to admire your handiwork. You'll either fall off the ladder or step on and break something important/expensive

The moment you discover you bought the wrong size, too little, the wrong colour, etc, is always 5 minutes after the shop shuts.

And if the above happens, it's always sunday, bank holiday or both, the next day, and the shop doesn't open.

I don't know why but when I decide to have a day doing DIY jobs the wife decides she'll have a day of tiding up. :cuckoo:

If the shops are still open and you need to "nip" and get some more screws, you'll soon realise while stood in the queue for the till that everyone is doing DIY.

The only materials on special offer are the ones that won't fit in the car or ones you needed on the last job.
