mgcvk 25 April 2007, 22:15 I've just been watching a pair as well on a massive old warehouse. Only on a piddly 300mm with 1.4 teleconverter, so very blown up. The male clutching what looks like a pigeon wing for the female.

mgcvk 25 April 2007, 22:28 600mm + 2xtc + 1.4xtc = 1680mm :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
I'm still not jealous!...................Oh yes actually I am.
Ian Cook 25 April 2007, 22:30 nice shots mgcvk :) cant get enough of them really, chuffed to bits to have them on me doorstep as well ! :)
mgcvk 25 April 2007, 22:35 Indeedy! I'm glad they like these man made cliffs.
Duck_Pond 26 April 2007, 08:56 I love birds of prey - hoping to get a shot of a hobby that has been hunting over a local lake, but it flies like a bl**dy swallow, so is really tricky to capture.
The shots above remind me of an hour spent on the north Cornish coast, near a famous old tin mine, where a pair of peregrines were hunting. Fantastic sight.
CharlieWhiskey 26 April 2007, 10:54 I keep trying to catch the local heron unawares, but no luck so far :(
Only got the 100-400 L on a 20D so need to get within 50yds if I can, any tips?:wonder:
Ian Cook 26 April 2007, 10:56 only way really CW is to be there before it gets there, maybe camo up a bit or wear colours that are very neutral (greens etc) they are very suscepti ble to any form of movement, so if you see it regualryl in one spot, maybe sit nearby covered as uch as you can and just wait ! its a pain but you can get some great shots ! i need to find somewhere to do just this with kingfishers ! :)
rs_uk 26 April 2007, 12:21 600mm + 2xtc + 1.4xtc = 1680mm :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
Nice one! Looks like you're gonna have to invest in a long cable release and some climbing gear though, to get that shot you're after. :norty:
Nick.
Duck_Pond 26 April 2007, 15:43 Ian - have a look at the Wildlife Trusts and in particular the Christopher Cadbury site (Upton Warren) in Worcs, and Brandon Marsh near Cov (Warks).
Both offer good chances to see kingfishers, especially now they are breeding, and feeding their young.
These pics were taken at Upton Warren on Sunday, by me, with a 100-400 on a 350D. Probably need sharpening a bit more, but it was cloudy.

PM me if you want to see the rest...
Oh, and for herons, check out the size of the fish this b*gger is eating:

:lol1: I was on the other side of the lake, hence the crap quality, but it was too preoccupied to worry about me standing there!
John Catlin 26 April 2007, 17:45 Trying to catch the snakes at the moment
mgcvk 26 April 2007, 18:02 Following a bit of research it looks like the bigger Peregrine is the female and the smaller is the male. He must have already passed her the pigeon takeaway!
Ian Cook 26 April 2007, 20:09 yeah most BoP females are larger than the male !
Thanks Duck_Pond, i may go and have a mooch over there when i get chance !
Shots are excellent by the way, they seem a touch dark, can they be tweaked in p/shop ? :)
Duck_Pond 27 April 2007, 08:00 Probably. I need to master Neat Image, so I can get rid of any grainyness (sp?) though to be honest, it was shot at either 100 or 200 ISO, so maybe the bird is a rank old specimen! :lol1:
It's taken me 6 months to be in the right place at the right time to get the KF shots... now I just need to combine that with some sunshine! :)
