Photo Competition Round 35 – Deterioration - Discussion (Ends 27/5/07)

Seeing as it's now spring with growth all around what better than to photograph the exact opposite, be it natural corrosion or made-made decay, there's plenty of ways to interpret the theme.

Discussion only in this thread please.

Entries Here (http://bbs.scoobynet.com/photography-360/601085-photo-competition-round-35-deterioration-entries-thread.html)

Rules

1. Image must have been taken within the competition period, which is from Tuesday 24th April 2007 to Sunday 27th May 2007.
2. No image will be greater than 800 pixels along its longest side.
3. Image overall will not exceed 300kb (defined as 307,200 bytes).

If a submitted image contravenes rules 1 ,2 or 3 could people please mention this in the discussion thread so that the poster can fix it, some advice to the poster about how they might rectify the problem might be handy. No image which breaks any of these rules will be included in the voting thread so let's try to avoid a submission being left out due to not meeting the rules.

4. Each entrant can change their posted image at any time (using edit function) up to the closing date for submissions which is midnight UK local time on Monday 28th May 2007.
5. Maximum of three images per entrant.
6. Digital manipulation is allowed in order to correct technical issues. Sharpening, levels, contrast and colour adjustments are allowed as is the cloning out of minor defects.
7. If you feel the need to use other digital tools or effects then these must be fully documented so that people can learn how to use such tools/effects.
8. Image must be hosted so that it appears correctly in the competition thread using something like photobucket or a direct link to the photo if you cannot do this.
9. Image must be titled but not on the image itself, i.e. some bold text naming the image should be posted above it. In addition, to benefit others, please post some details below the pic e.g. EXIF data or just aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, equipment used etc. (this is a learning exercise after all).
10. There will be no posts in the Entries thread other than those for the posting of competition images.
11. There are no judges, only votes from Scoobynet members, their collective decision is final.
12. Voting should be 29th May-1st June, anyone with a Scoobynet log-in will be eligible to vote, not just those submitting pictures.
13. Images will meet the requirements of the ScoobyNet T&Cs
14. Winner gets to choose the theme for the next round.

Someone needs to sticky/un-sticky the threads :thumb: hope the new theme gets you thinking, should be plenty of scope for interpretation :)

Hmm....might be a tough one for me seeing as spring is totally in full bloom and all the dead/dying stuff is already long gone. I guess we on the continent are a fair few weeks ahead of you guys in cold and windy Engerland :):p -- 30 degree heat here :)

Now if you'd said "Yellow" was the theme the glorious rapeseed fields around here would have just been ideal!

It's pretty springy over there too Alwyn. We've had 3-4 weeks of decent weather and we're past the daffs and onto the bluebells already

I'm sure there is much for scope for photographing junk over here, Switzerland is just too tidy for that ;)

Wouldn't need to be a natural entity deteriorating. One I took on a trip at the the end of last year would have fitted the topic nicely!

Your pool pic in the entries, is that Barcelona ??, looks a little like the diving pool from the Olympics, which when I was last there (5 years ago) was very run down ??

No, not nearly as glamorous . . . its Grange-over-sands, just outside the Lake District :D The pool was totally boarded up with high fences all round. I just wanted to see what was inside so held the camera up overhead and poked it through the fence. The water was vivid green, so I was going to do a B&W pic with the green pool.

Apologies to anyone that may live there, but it was the most depressing place I've ever been to. Needless to say we got out of there sharpish.

lol just a bit out geographically, it was the range in the distance that made me think Barcelona, good photo though, I'm sure the green water would look effective but i'm liking the B+W.

Canon 5D, 24-105L with polariser
tweaked levels, B&W gradient map

All I get is a little red X and a Page not found error in Photobucket:confused:

Not having much luck with the competition theme this month (as I suspected) however I seem to have developed an unhealthy interest in roadkill...

I'm trying to see how a good looking, well kept, naked woman with neatly brushed hair simply sat in a dank corner constitutes deterioration :wonder:

Don't get me wrong, i'm all for these sort of pics, but it does seem a loose interpretation ;)

Well...

The picture is taken in an abandoned house which is badly deteriorating (look at the wall paper behind her) and is supposed to depict a classy woman who has lost EVERYTHING, even her clothes. To me thats deterioration of the highest level.
Also asked other people there view on it before posting and they all said it depicted deterioration perfectly.

Suppose we all see things differently though :thumb:

fair point; i did work out the message you were trying to get across and my gf thought it was an excellent interpretation.

if i'd thunk before posting i wouldn't have posted, but at least you know 2 people had a constructive chat about your image. I'd be pleased with that.

Simon,

Might be my monitor, but you've got some serious purple fringing going on with pic 2 and 3

It might just be my warped mind but 69WRX's GF looks slightly like a thin Abi Titmuss in that pic.

When you talk about a woman who has lost everything, Abi Titmuss and deteriation.......

Oh the irony! I like it.
