Is this true about selling a camera with a memory card

Someone is selling a camera, and said that the memory card won't be included, because of the data protection act contravention?

Is this correct, or is the guy spinning a bit of a yarn, not that it matters really, as Im only watching the camera to see how much it sells for, and have noticed many others are for sale with memory cards

I wouldn't sell a memory card - you just never know what can be recovered from one.
Similarly, I'd never sell a PC hard disc.

Not got anything (well not much;)) to hide, but I just wouldn't.

The Data Protection act thing is bollocks though.

Thats the only reason I can think of for not including a memory card (unless a brand new cheap one) is that there is a possibility of pictures being recovered etc

The DPA did sound a bit odd

Complete load of bull**** IMHO

Unless you have been taking pictures which you shouldn't :nono: there is absolutely no reason not to sell a formatted memory card.

Data Protection Act covers personal data, not images

Storm in a teacup if you ask me, but why not get the card cleaned (not just formated) and all data is zeroed. Anyone handy with a computer can do this.

I could understand if he said from a copyright point of view regarding the new owner recovering deleted pictures, but data protection act isn't a concern.

Cop out for not throwing in the card i reckon

Unless he's taken photo's of peoples data in the past, then it's a load of tripe. He probably doesn't want you recovering any of his old photo's and just couldn't think of the right phrase perhaps.
