we just came back from indonesia and singapore

hand luggage; we took a lowepro slingshot 200 and a compuday back pack with laptop inside ... and suz had a handbag too.
still no liquids

i got stopped at each xray scanner as my slingshot had my 1DIIN, 50L, 24L, spare battery, Archos & flashtrax hard drives, spare lens caps, filters, CF cards, Nintendo DS, rechargable AAs (for suz). it was all packed in there and i can see why they thought it might be the component parts for a b0mb lol

as soon as they saw it all, they were always happy

laptops go through the scanners separately - and you might have to switch it on, so make sure the battery has juice!

and there was a wide angle underwater lens in the top of the slingshot which, on a previous trip, the egyption police thought was a landmine until i let them look through it lol

when we went to rally portugal the other week we flew with easyjet and you have no weight limit on hand luggage just as long as the bag is within the allowed size.(i took a micro trekker 200)
i had camera ,2 lenses, camcorder and charges in mine, and the only thing they wanted to check was a pack of aa batteries i had in it, in total it weighted 9.7kg.
so i would check your airlines web site to see if the weight rule applys with them to.
hope this helps.

Taken from BMI site, but pretty common: 1 piece max 10kg max size 56x45x25cm

A Mini Trekker will just fit in that, as long as you don't stuff the front of it full.

Weight limit varies with airline so check who you are flying with.

If you have any cleaning fluid (e.g. eclipse) or any other liquids put them in you hold luggage as there are still restrictions on taking liquids on board (Max 100ml seperately packed in a transparent resealable plastic bag)

Mini Trekker will be fine - it's a long time since I had hand luggage weighed.

I took more than that to Canada recently (Air Canada) and they were fine. As stated above, laptop just needs to go through the scanner seperately.

You are only allowed 1 piece of hand luggage though, so the laptop will need to be in it. That includes handbags etc - that's a BAA security rule not the airlines.

You may need to a rucksac for your wife to put the laptop and all her stuff in.
