I wonder why they've gone for what LOOKS like a 4-2 exhaust, when all the other fours are 4-1?

Sbradley 19 April 2007, 11:17 Because the road bike on which it's based has a 4-2 and the rules require that to be carried through to the racer... SB Lathafummi 19 April 2007, 11:21 Max Biaggi WSBK bike has two pipes as well but only belchs flames out of one Mogsi 19 April 2007, 11:32 Max Biaggi WSBK bike has two pipes as well but only belchs flames out of one Yup, the left pipe is 'supposedly' a fake Lathafummi 19 April 2007, 12:11 Is it a rule thing or as a marketing "road bike has two so the race bike must have two" thing? graham22 19 April 2007, 13:00 Yup, the left pipe is 'supposedly' a fake I heard that too but the left can was sptting flames last weekend - right one wasn't so that may be fake, using the left hand pipe to make up length as they're shorter than a 4-1?? Lathafummi - bikes have got to be silhouette of the road bikes so same no of exhausts etc. Sbradley 19 April 2007, 13:36 Both cans on Biaggi's bike had lots of heat haze coming out of them at Valencia, and having seen them with the fairings off they both look real enough to me. The reasoning on the road bike is that they couldn't get enough gas out of a single pipe and silence it legally without making the can huge so they simply put another one on... The race bike isn't silenced the same but the gas flow requirements are more ;) SB brickboy 19 April 2007, 13:48 Ah, I didn't realise the latest GSXR had twin pipes .... is it a true 4-2 or a 4-1-2? Still interesting that a single end-can system works on the Hondas, even though both motors will be pumping the same amount of air (or at least within a couple of % either way) Mogsi 19 April 2007, 14:45 According to the Suzuki site the WSB is a 4-2-1 system ! Exhaust System: 4-2-1 SUZUKI-RACING ::::::::::.... (http://www.suzuki-racing.com/machine_profile.aspx?SRS_ID=7) Sbradley 19 April 2007, 14:52 Honda went down the fashionable underseat exhaust route and managed to get a large silencer volume instead of storage space. Yamaha and Kawasaki have twin underseat cans. Means to an end - personally the Suzuki is growing on me lookswise, and I've always hated underseat exhausts... SB Lost? 19 April 2007, 18:06 Not sure its actually the rules as one of the rizla bikes was only running one pipe at thruxton! Anyone else notice? SimonD 19 April 2007, 19:31 and I've always hated underseat exhausts... .....ah.... a man after my own heart. Stick 'em under the engine where they belong! struv 20 April 2007, 16:12 k7 has four into two pipes k6 has four into one the road bike has two to meet noise/emisions regs and still move enough air to perform and the super bikes have to have the same layout thats why some superbikes have a four into one ( k6) four into two (k7) Lost? 20 April 2007, 18:13 k7 has four into two pipes k6 has four into one the road bike has two to meet noise/emisions regs and still move enough air to perform and the super bikes have to have the same layout thats why some superbikes have a four into one ( k6) four into two (k7) So one (cals) of the rizlas out at thruxton was a k6? Normski 20 April 2007, 18:58 It must have been a K6 if it only had one exhaust. The K7 road bike has two exhausts so the race bike must also have two. WSB is a silhouette class, so that means both exhausts must be there but both don't have to be working. The teams probably have different configuration exhausts to change the engine characteristics to suit the different tracks.
