Looking at the possibility of upgrading my trusty old Canon D30 (if I can sell it that is :) )

I would rather keep my lenses, they are EF 2 canon and 1 Sigma

This is a D30 not a 30D mine is the old 3.1 Megapixel one

Not sure what a good replacement is at the moment, bearing in mind I like the thumbwheel on the back, and all of the features it currently has, would just like something that is a bit faster, and a few more Mp, and better ISO performance, not that the D30 is shabby, but it probably is by todays standards

So, any ideas, and nothing mega priced either :)

And does anyone have any good deals on at the moment?

I would go for the 30D then. ;)
Sorry, I can't suggest you a cheep place to buy it, but due to warranty reasons you should stick to a 'in-country' store (online or not). I went from 10D to 5D which is of course a great upgrade but since you want speed and less expensive I would go with the 30D. Otherwise the 400D could be cheaper solution but unfortunately without the thumb-wheel.

Just been having a quick look, budget is a bit tight

But ive had a very quick look at 350D, 400D, 20D and 30D

30D would be ideal I guess :)

Would also depend on how much I can get for my D30, complete with all boxes, manuals, cd's, batteries, battery charger, shoulder case, a couple of flash units (want a new one of them too ;) ) and maybe the Sigma Lens thrown in too, depending on what sort of money I could get for that

I wasn't 'quite' happy with the 400D my Sister bought recently but only because the lack of the thumbwheel

I shoot gig photography mainly these days, and I like the thumbwheel for very fast adjustment of the ISO :)

Ive seen a hell of a lot of 400D's and 30D's on ebay but mostly from Hong Kong, but not sure on how warranty etc would be with them

I bought the D30 second hand, and I would consider another 2nd hand camera (the D30 was from a trusted source tho)

There's a company that sells Canon-refurbished kit on ebay - just search for Canon Outletfrom ebay's homepage. Comes with a 12 month canon warranty. (Haven't used them, just keep an eye on their prices).

Or failing that, there's Warehouse Express and the Canon rebate on a brand new one.

I want a 30D, just trying not to spend the cash at the moment!

John.

I was gonna suggest Canon Outlet, not the cheapest, but Canon refurbished kit with a warranty, worth keeping an eye on :thumb:

I reckon a 20D might fit your needs, I've got one and the 30D is not that much better to bother, depends on what you can get one for.

Slightly more than my EOS 50E, but less than an early 300D ;)

Stick it on eBay as that's full of mugs who will pay a fortune for owt ;)

Probably £ 150 - £ 200 on Ebay. Not a huge amount I'm afraid.

I would go for the 30D, either new or used, although used will give you the best deal. The prices between secondhand 30D and 20D bodies in good condition isn't huge, and you get a bigger screen, spot metering and so on.

Try the POTN forums, I bought my 30D from there, and there is one there now, body only for £ 510

Cheers Pumpkin, I never thought to look on there, even though I am a registered member LOL

There is also a 20D for sale too :)

Just sent a few pm's

Now need to shift my D30 :)

I bought a 30D a few months back from the Canon outlet on ebay , £560 I think it was with a 12 months warranty , and it turned up looking like a brand new one with all the boxes software etc

Its looking that way for a 20D or a cheap 30D :)

question is, do I sell my D30 with a lens (to make it more attractive to a beginner, and which lens) or do I sell the body with all accesories etc

I have a Canon EF 50mm prime & hood (nifty 50 as they are so called)
a Sigma 28-135mm IF Lens & hood,
and a Canon EF 80-200mm

Which of those three lenses would be best to go with the D30 in a sale, (the sigma is the most versatile I guess and covers a reasonable range) however I do like all the lenses I have, and would only have to get something else to replace it

the one I least use I guess is the 80-200, but I would still want a zoom, and possibly would go for a 300 then :)

Which one would help sell the camera, or if indeed no lenses

Sell the Sigma, and get a lens you won't have to re-chip every time it goes near an airport ;)

I would reckon the best replacement for it is the EF-S 17-85 IS if your budget can stretch that far.

I was thinking that CW, I think I have sussed out with the Sigma now

If I switch it to manual focus, and then put it on the camera, it works fine, then I can switch it back to autofocus

But then its been absolutely fine since I did that several months ago, and it has been used quite a bit since then too :)

But still worht thinking about though :) I did have a quick look at the 28-135 in the canon range but comes in at 208 quid

Steve,

From experience on ebay I'd sell the body with the sigma as its a good starter/all purpose lens and means you are selling the camera as a "good to go" package.

Keep the nifty fifty and the 80-200 for your new one.

If you have other accessories (not directly related to the camera body) to sell I'd advertise them separately for best results.
