Does anyone have a tip to help me get the join between the shelf and the tiled splashback here neat and tidy pls?

The top shelf needs to be easily removable as the stopcock is in there, underneath it.

I guess what I have done is cut the top, last, row of tiles a bit too short...? All I can think of is getting that plastic edging bead you can buy, but it wont seem to do the trick.

I'n putting the mosaic tiles on the shelf itself.

Cheers

my first thought would be to put some sort of edging onto the shelf so it sits over the splashback (ie like a 90 deg pvc section perhaps, or maybe polished ally). alternatively, could retile the splashback slightly higher (pain in the @rse having to bin the top course of tiles you've already fixed though) so that the shelf sits behind the front edge - obviously you;d then need to sort out how to lift the shelf next time you need to get in there though

Thanks for the thoughts Rich - just dont know if that's something I can get off the shelf? Sure I could still lift the shelf up though. Might still have to bite the bullet and buy another box of tiles so as I can replace the last 3

Rather than tile the top why not fit a vanity worktop, this could either be cut to size and mastic'd into place so that it is removable or you could buy a proprietory cover to cut into the top, this is not a good to look at, but gives easy access to the cistern.

Have seen it done in hotels and private hospitals by cutting a flap and using piano hinging, this is effective for access, but looks a bit ugly.

Nice piece of granite would look good on top also

Hope this helps

in my downstairs cloakroom, i have mdf boxing for a concealed cistern. a shelf sits on the top (none of the boxing is tiled - or even decorated yet), but it has a rounded front edge and sits neatly on top, overhanging by probably 15mm. that's the same principle yvm is describing

another idea would be pvc coated window board cut to size and overhanging the front by enough for you to lift it if necessary

i like the piano hinge suggestion, but never seen it done neatly enough for my liking. i've always gone for magnets or push catch type magnets in the past

HTH!

As suggested above, we used vanity worktop and bought a removable panel, which matched pretty close. Easy to remove when you need access.

Great suggestions thanks guys. A thin bit of black granite, overhanging a bit might look good, and if I decide to seal it to the wall with silicone, that is later easily pulled off. I want it to look good, and already have shelled out on the special order mosaics :(... D
