View Full Version : upgrading to CS2 or CS3
mgcvk 11 April 2007, 11:17 A friend of mine has an old version of Photoshop, 5.5 I believe. Anyway he can't remember if this is a properly licensed version or not as he may have lost the receipt or something if you see what I mean!! Anyway this friend of mine wants to know if it is possible to upgrade to CS2 or CS3 quite cheaply if it turns out that for some reason this may not be a licensed version he may have - although I'm sure it probably is licensed of course.:)
mgcvk 11 April 2007, 11:18 This would be for Mac as well not PC.
Pumpkin 11 April 2007, 11:24 you can upgrade from photoshop 7.0, CS, CS2 to CS3 for about £ 170 according to adobe.com
mgcvk 11 April 2007, 11:45 This is very old 5.5 though.
mgcvk 11 April 2007, 11:47 Is there any way to run a PC version of CS2 on a new Intel Mac. So many questions????????
Iain Young 11 April 2007, 11:54 I seem to remember reading a while ago that Adobe had built in checks for "known" pirated license codes into the upgrade process, so if the copy of 5.5 is a bit dodgy and uses one of these codes, then the chances are that the upgrade might fail...
Pumpkin 11 April 2007, 11:59 5.5 is probably too old to upgrade. You can buy boxed copies of CS on Ebay and use that as an upgrade route.

Yep I've just looked on e-bay and you seem to be able to get CS2 for around £100. Is this too good to be true and are they full versions with this "academic" licence?
GarethE 11 April 2007, 14:07 I don't think you'll be able to upgrade from PS5.5. We upgraded to CS from PS6, but PS6 needed to be installed on the mac first....it wouldn't recognise any earlier versions, consequently I can't see 5.5 working with newer CS versions.
Still using CS so if affraid I can't help with the other queries, sorry m8

You should be able to with a program called 'Boot Camp' (available from apple website) which means you can install windows XP on a mac and use it like a PC (should you really want to!!!)
alistair 12 April 2007, 22:34 Have you looked at the educational licence - sounds like you need to find a kid, get proof of their school attendance & register the product in their name....

Its a bit of a weird one but I will look into it - just seems impossibly cheap!!
AllanB 14 April 2007, 11:02 Don't waste your time with these illegal copies on ebay so many of them are clearly too good to be true and so they are.
I hope you've bought your upgrade already as thae route to go was to upgrade to CS2 to get the free upgrade to CS3 but UK stock is depelted and I doubt you'll find much free stock anywhere.
Demand for this has been huge !
