I currently use a Fuji S2 Pro but want to upgrade. I am thinking of either a Nikon D200 or the Fuji S5. I am having difficulty deciding between them. The D200 has a better FPS but the S5 produces better images, according to the reviews I have read.

Does anyone on here own and use these, what are your thoughts?

I think you need to decide whether the improvement in image quality is worth the extra £400 of the S5.

I've seen countless images from the D200 which are simply stunning. It's like anything, in the right hands it will produce images of very high quality, so the deciding factor is you more than the camera.

At the moment, for the price, the D200 is hard to beat.

If you do mainly portraits though, the S5 could be worth the extra £400.

I have a D200, and I love it, Ok I'm biased as I haven't tried the F5 yet but for what I ask of my camera the D200 copes fine, its usually me that fails.

If you go into my profile and look at my site, 90% of the pics on there have been taken with the 200, the Toy Valentine shots are all done with the 200.

if you shoot low light, then do some comparisons - they all use different ccds/cmos and some are better than others ;)

dpreview has a good selection of reviews with sample images too.

what do you shoot?

I mainly shot sports, especially motorsport, so I think the extra fps of the D200 would be better.

I'd say the Nikon was more suited to motorsports than the Fuji

Yes definitely the speed of the Nikon for motorsport. The Fujis are very impressive for people portraits, really good skintone.

It seems a lot of the benefit of the S5 is in dynamic range, for sports it's allegedly pig slow. And 1/2 as much again as a D200.

Here's another review I've seen:

I shoot motorsports using a D200 and the only real gripe I have is severe battery use. Other than that I love everything about it. That said, I also have the MB-D200 grip, so with a second battery I get a full days shooting out of it with ease.
The battery grip also comes in handy should you use any of the larger pro lenses. Even with my 70-200 f2.8 VR on, the difference in handling with/without the grip is quite substantial.

I used my S2Pro for the last three seasons shootig World Superbikes as well as other stuff, and it was...adequate.

It had a few foibles - focus was a bit iffy sometimes and it's terribly slow - but overall it's a good camera and I got some good shots with it.

Just changed to a Nikon. OK, so it's a D2Xs but the principle is the same. It's lightning fast, focus is excellent and I got some good shots with it.

At the moment I actually refer using the Fuji as I'm so used to it. But the shots out of the Nikon are so incredibly sharp that there's no way I can ever go back - just need to practice more...
