The water supply to my house was turned off and on again today which seems to have created an air lock in the boiler. If the boiler is switched on there is alot of banging as if there is no water going in and then the boiler shuts itself down. Can anyone tell me how to clear the airlock and how to stop this happening again?

How would turning the water off and on affect the boiler unless the heating system was drained, a bit more info would be good.

There isn't really any more information to give, the heating system has not been drained, the radiators are full of water. I can't understand it either, hence the question.

First thing i'd do is switch the boiler off, and then turn a hot tap on, that would pull water through the boiler, then when the taps been on for a few minutes, turn the boiler back on and see what happens..... if the house blows up, don't blame me!!

Or if it's an open/vented system you could try connecting the hot and cold supplies to the washing machine and opening them up. This should force the cold water back up the hot pipes and "blow" any air out.

Worked a treat when i had changed a loft tank and had no heating.

Usual disclaimer...blah..blah.. :)
