3. Image overall will not exceed 300kb (defined as 307,200 bytes).
If a submitted image contravenes rules 1 ,2 or 3 could people please mention this in the discussion thread so that the poster can fix it, some advice to the poster about how they might rectify the problem might be handy. No image which breaks any of these rules will be included in the voting thread so let's try to avoid a submission being left out due to not meeting the rules.

10. There will be no posts in the Entries thread other than those for the posting of competition images.
11. There are no judges, only votes from Scoobynet members, their collective decision is final.
12. Voting should be 17th - 20th April, anyone with a Scoobynet log-in will be eligible to vote, not just those submitting pictures.

mark1234 21 March 2007, 05:13 1. Image must have been taken within the competition period, which is from Saturday 17th March 2007 to Sunday 15th April.
Judges ruling required - I have a 'mirror' image taken at 09:47 on Sat 17/03/2007 *local time*
Local time is GMT+10 with daylight savings in operation, so 11hrs ahead of blighty, making it 22:47 on Friday evening GMT time :lol1:
Technically...no problem.....morally, you couldn't have known the subject of the competition at that time...I'll leave to to you ;):D
CharlieWhiskey 21 March 2007, 10:36 I'm sure nobody would have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it ;) The date on the EXIF will be within the comp limits so no worries :thumb:

Given my timezone, what makes you think I have morals :wonder:
Oh well, it's a fair point I guess! Besides, last time I entered something I liked it came nowhere; I entered something dodgy it won... and I had a horrible time coming up with a new comp :Whatever_
So here it is.

Sadly I wasn't in the right spot to get Mr Coulthard's attempt to make a mirrored F1 car image :lol1:
CharlieWhiskey 01 April 2007, 23:04 I think you should enter it :thumb:
Go on..put it in!
Unfortunately it seems that I will be out of the country on business from the 18th April. I am happy to set up the voting thread but may have problems getting internet access to sort out the results. Anyone fancy volunteering?
cheers
joni
CharlieWhiskey 04 April 2007, 18:24 I'll sort it :thumb:
I hoped you would...Many thanks!
Mr Scoob 07 April 2007, 10:02 Does anyone know why pictures seem so small on scoobynet now. Mine is 800 in photobucket but comes out as 480 on here, is there a solution?:wonder:
CharlieWhiskey 10 April 2007, 09:22 Alwyn, that's exaclty the scene I thought of when I saw the subject :thumb:
I suppose Annecy is a bit nearer for you though :D
Most of the ideas I've had so far have already been done better, so I'm hoping to get something else before this week is out :wonder:
STi-Frenchie 10 April 2007, 09:48 Cheers Chris! I was thinking of you guys when we were in Annecy yesterday. It was a fantastic day and I could've spent the whole day shooting candids as the amount of tottie was overwhelming. Summer's coming :) Decided to concentrate on the competition theme though :)
CharlieWhiskey 10 April 2007, 10:20 LOL :D
We're off to Prague in May for some picturesque urban scenes :D
It's been a nice weekend here, quite abnormal for a British Bank Holiday  but all I've managed to do is start painting the windows
flat4 16 April 2007, 10:43 Only just seen the closing date for entries is tonite! that went quick :Suspiciou i have something on my laptop at home i might just enter tonite if i think it's good enough :)

CharlieWhiskey 16 April 2007, 23:26 Typical Kev, save the best till last :thumb:
mart360 17 April 2007, 22:55 Quick Q?
Rule 2 states no entry should be bigger than 800 pixels on its longest edge..
Why are there 11 shots in the thread that appear to be bigger than 800 pixels
on the longest edge? and all have been accepted for voting?
and if they ar,nt over 800 pixels, i,d like to know how they do it (then i,ll do it too next time :):)
Mart:wonder:
CharlieWhiskey 17 April 2007, 23:18 I have no idea where you get 11 from? I've just checked them all, and only one exeeds the 800 pixel limit.
Only one I can find is Sbradley's 'Now what should I photograph next?' (http://www.rollingthunder.tv/valencia_2.jpg) which is 800 x 868.
I suspect this is merely a mistake in defining the maximum dimension as width rather than height and I don't think much would be lost by shrinking it by 7.8%
Can you please clarify how you come by the above allegation?
btw, I think this rule should be ammended now that Scoobynet has decided unilateraly that 14" screens are what most people use and therefore 800*600 is the default resolution for PC's
I think we should take advantage that all the pics are linked to their 'full sized' images by deciding a new upper limit. I'm obviously biased by my widescreen 1920x1200 monitor, but what would be a sensible size?:wonder:
STi-Frenchie 18 April 2007, 08:51 I think the powers that be on SN are *sorely* misguided if they think the world is using 800x600 as their default resolution these days. I am ultimately responsible for our organizations 26 websites and our statistics show that only 10% of our (very considerable) audience (millions) use a screen resolution of 800x600 whilst 54% use 1024x768, 14% use 1024x1024 and 10% use 1280x800 - the rest of the percentages being made up from higher resolutions.

Nope, they're just a bit dim :lol1:
Interestingly, though, i'm using a 1280x1024, and scoobynets pages are the perfect size to view within outlook.
Hanslow 18 April 2007, 09:35 Shame I missed this one. I would have liked to have entered this (obviously resized and stuff and with the original image info included in the file - taken on 17th March):
http://www.geektastic.plus.com/IMG_0945.jpg
but sadly have been neglecting the photography forums for a while :(
CharlieWhiskey 18 April 2007, 22:18 Come on folks, I know it's a difficult choice this time but please get voting!
26 people entered and only 9 people have voted so far:rolleyes:
I'm not about Friday night so keep voting beyond the 10pm deadline and I'll sort it out first thing Saturday morning.

I think allegation is a harsh word, I was merly trying to clarify why some images appear to be bigger than 800 on the longest edge, ( they are on my monitor :)
I resized my image to 800x600, and uploaded it..
if you place your mouse on the longest edge (800) and scrollup and down the thread, no image is wider than that .... <------>
if you then take a piece of paper and mark the <---> distance and then rotate the paper so the <----> distance is vertical this should then define the 800 in either direction. as i said many appear to longer than 800,
If you look at post 18 which is below mine, the shot tanks, appears to be no more than 800 on its longest edge, it lines up exactly with mine which is 800x600 if you draw round the shot tanks, and overlay it on the shot mirrors, it is smaller... how can this be, if the longest edge is 800?
If its just a question of monitor resoloution then accept my appologies, but it does seem odd
mart
CharlieWhiskey 18 April 2007, 23:13 Have you tried clicking on each image to view it FULL size? Or right clicking on each image to see view it's properties and hence see how many pixels it really is?:wonder:
Your image, as shown on the entries thread, is only 480 x 360 pixels to see it full sixed you have to click on it and possibly maximise the window.
Scoobynet, in their infinite wisdom, now restrict the width of pics but not the height, so all the ones you think are bigger than yours are merely portrait images which Scoobynet has not shrunk to fit their stupidly narrow fixed width format. Please target your concerns on this issue to the Webmaster and his minions.
Why are there 11 shots in the thread that appear to be bigger than 800 pixels
on the longest edge? and all have been accepted for voting?
It was an allegation and it was an false one, please get your facts right next time.
mart360 18 April 2007, 23:22 Please accept my appolgies, and withdraw my entry from the voting thread.
its only fair that i shouldnt be able to accept votes given my faux pas.
i wasnt aware that you could check the image size by using the properties tab.

Mart
CharlieWhiskey 18 April 2007, 23:27 Appologies accepted, sorry for upsetting you Mart, Please blame it on SN's stupid policies.
Your image is still a valid entry and no reason to exclude it :thumb:
Sbradley 19 April 2007, 21:03 Sorry for my incorrectly sized picture (while we're all apologising).
And yes, it was late, I was in a hurry and I forgot to check that the height was less than 800 after resizing to width...
AND it's not a very good picture anyway. I just wanted to add something a little different. Oh, and it's not me either. Don't know who he is, he just looked, um, reflective...
