I was here with the news about an hour quicker! ;)
I would imagine Peugeot might have helped out a bit with the cash, but I am sure that it would be a welcome addition to SWRT's bank account!

Recently crowned World Rally Champion Richard Burns will drive for Peugeot next year as his legal wrangle with his current manufacturer Subaru appears certain to be resolved out of court.
According to a report in the British national paper The Guardian, Burns will make his switch to the French marque as planned next year, just a season after winning the world title with Subaru.
Subaru started court proceedings in High Court last week to prevent Burns leaving the squad. It claimed he was bound by an existing contract to remain with the team because he won the World Championship this year.
Burns's lawyers, however, claimed that Subaru's signing of Tommi Makinen allowed their man to leave the team because the Finn was a suitable replacement. They also claimed that his contract's clause that he had to remain because he was World Champion was a restriction of trade.
The details of the settlement are likely to remain secret.
Bet there's lots of cash involved :D:D:D:D

Apparantly Burnsie had the option of a years 'Gardening leave' or to cough up 6.9 Million.
Neil Micklethwaite 11 December 2001, 17:53 The thread in General had the BBC URL with the figures on it.
Still I hope Burnsie and SWRT are both happy.
Guess we won't see him back in a Scooby then.
Knight Rider 11 December 2001, 20:20 So much for the scam theory 555BOY ;)
This mean that Peugeot will have a one hell of a line up for the 2002 season. Grönholm, Burns and Rovanpera. That´s a pack that will be difficult to beat.
The big question for us Subaru fans is of course who will be the driver nr. 2 for Subaru for the 2002 season.
Solberg og maybe Auriol or Puras.
My vote goes to Solberg or Auriol.

I doubt very much whether SWRT want Burns anymore - I think it's now down to how much money can they get to release him. At the end of the day he's only got himself to blame - he's the one that signed the contract in the first place!
