I'm sure this has been asked before, but....
The time has come for me to sell the bike,, and to buy myself a new rally car, but as this is the first bike I've ever sold I could do with some advice....
What's best to do when someone comes to look at the bike and wants to take it for a 'test'. I dont fancy handing over the keys to someone I've never known, and for them to clear off and never be seen again. I know it's going to have to be done, but what's best???
Any pointers folks?????

Out of interest, what bike is it?
Don't tell just anyoldone your name and address, get their name and confirmed address first. By confirmed address I mean a landline phone number which you can check with directory enquiries.
Test rides are all very well but you want the full asking price in cash in your hand. Don't accept a car as a deposit or be consoled that his girlfriend will wait with you. She won't.
Do not under any circumstances let them sit on the bike with it started up or the keys anywhere near it. People can suddenly turn nasty when they have five or ten grands worth of machine and an open road. Happened to a mate (R1 in a car park) don't let it happen to you. You ain't insured against "giving it away".
Do not sell them the bike and give them the V5. Let them sign the V5 and you will post it because frankly they will not. If they have the V5, in your name, you could face years of speeding fines and parking tickets.
Cheques and PayPal for example are not instant payments. Cheques can bounce after several weeks, check with your bank. You really want to double check the buyers identity if they're not a cash buyer. Ask for drivers license and another form of ID.
Don't let your buyer(s) outnumber you. Ask them if you are expecting one person or if they will be bringing "a" friend. If they turn up with two mates unannounced, either get a couple of mates yourself or turn them away. You don't want to get mugged, robbed and have your bike nicked...
Above all, have fun :Suspiciou

Use you instinct and if someone feels dodgy make some excuses then say goodbye
