I am over on holiday i Tenerife just now guys and there seems to be loads of places selling top end digital slr cameras for 250 quid less than back home.

Do you think these could be fakes ,or is it the switch the real camera for a dud scam. OR should i stay well clear and just buy one back home?

its a tax free zone fella.. Ive purchased a fair few electrical items from there in the past all have been good. good bit of advise is to take it out of the box and carry it through the airport (put the box in your case if you want to keep it.. (saves HMCustoms trying to get you to pay import duty on it ;))

And don't forget that Camera bodies don't have an international warranty. Just lenses and other accessories.

I've heard bad things about camera sales in Tenerife - especially from traders passing themselves off as well-known resellers (eg. Jessops) who don't actually have anything to do with that company. But, that's not to say they're all dishonest, of course.

Isn't it in the EU, so no tax to pay anyway? (Forgive my ignorance).

How about letting us know which camera you're after, maybe someone could have a quick look around the reputable dealers here in the UK and see what the best price is. It might be just as cheap to buy back home if you know where to look.

I would be very careful and look out for fakes. My in laws bought a supposedly Canon camcorder a while back and I've always had my doubts about it. It does work though, just doesn't feel quality. I personally wouldn't part with a lot of money for high end camera equipment in a dodgy little sea front shop. Much better safer deals on the internet and via Hong Kong. I did get a very nice little SQNY radio in Lanzarote. I was pretty sure that was a fake!
