I want to install an FM expander to my Forester STi as I am rapidly boring of Radio 2 :freak3: (even more so as Terry is on holiday this week ;) ).

Bear with me as I've never really done this sort of stuff before so no laughing at my ineptitude :wonder:

I'm happy enough with getting access to the back of the headunit (once I've scratched my dash to bits :Suspiciou ).

I have the FM expander at home, there are 3 wires/connections.

What do I do with them? I'm guessing I need to haul some connections out of the back of my head unit and then fit the expander in serial between the leads and the headunit.

I assume the thin one needs a power source. I also assume I can use the power source that is already supplied to the head unit?

Do I need to snip wires, use scotch locks, do any soldering? It's a bit difficult until I see the back of the headunit and I want to make sure I have everything I need before I start :iamwithst

Can anbody help? Any simple diagrams?

Cheers,
Avalyn.
P.S. I know it would be easier just to hand it over to an installer but I don't trust anybody not to scratch my dash to bits, if anybody is going to scratch it I'd rather it was me

Never added one to a Subaru but on a Eunos Roadster I had, I actually installed it in the boot next to the aerial to save removing the head unit.

Three wires - signal input (from aerial), signal output (to head unit) and power. Tapped into the 'aerial up' wire for power.

Worked OK, but in the end these expanders aren't really worth the hassle, IMO. Ended up getting a £100 UK radio/CD which was much better - and it could play MP3s.
