Just got canon 350d, I only have a 256mb memory card at moment. Just been looking on ebay and seen some 2gb cards for £10-£13 will these be any good or should I buy from somewhwere else.:thumb:

Avoid ebay. You never know what you're getting when it comes to memory cards.
What kind of scenario's do you use the 350D in? If you ever plan on doing motorsport, or anythign that requires rapid fire, it may be worth investing in some decent cards rather than cheap budget types.

If you just use it for point and shoot, then the extra speed won't benefit you, so a cheaper one will suffice.

I've got 3 of the Dane Elec 4gig CF cards from 7dayshop - all work fine in my 350D... and they cost £17 each. Bargain!

Seing as my Microdrive died at the weekend :mad: i'm in the market for a new card, it's just a toss up between one 4gb or two 2gb, although i think i'll go with the 2gb for the extra speed you get with smaller cards, it's just a decision as to which brand...i'll let you know what i find out during the day :)

whilst taking photos:- depends on the camera body - look at the CF speed tests at Rob Galbraiths website and you'll see the difference between professional cameras and consumer cameras.

whilst downloading with cardreader - yes you should notice a difference an download rates.

This thread has just made me think

the other week taking the gig photos, I had to keep waiting for the files to write to the card, Scandisk II 2 Gb card

On saturday, I left my 2Gb card at home, so I had to use my 2 x 256 and 2 x 128 Mb cards, and I never had to wait once for the camera to write to the card

Maybe I need to invest in a faster card :)

i got a 2gb card bundled in with my camera which i bought off ebay the other day, just tried taking a few pics with it in and then with the supplied panasonic card (a massive 16mb:rolleyes: ) and there isn't any difference in the writing to card times. a very basic test i know, but is that something i've misread or do inferior ones take longer to record the image?

maybe the cheapie ones are a bit hit and miss on quality? just bought another 2gb card (sandisk) off ebay for £12 so fingers crossed that one is ok aswell!

Try putting your camera in raw mode and on continuous shooting, and see how many pics you can take without the camera waiting to write ! should be considerabley shorter wait with anything from a Ultra II up !

Okay, think i've got the answer to my question, found a review here (http://www.photokina-show.com/0365/sandisk/flashmemorycard/sandiskextreme4/) of the Sandisk Extreme 4, pretty much says what i thought, the cards are too fast for the cameras, 40mb/sec it might do through a card reader via firewire to a computer but will max out at whatever the CF bus speed onboard the camera is, so i can't see the point in getting a mega fast card unless all you want is your photos off the card quickly. So i reckon a branded 120/133x speed card will do just fine for now :)

I try to stick with 2Gb cards. I'm using sandisk extreme III cards now, but I have had inferior cards corrupt on me in the past, most often on really hot days. Loosing say 4gb or 8gb of pictures on a large card would really put a downer on my day:lol1:
On a good note however, I had Sandisks excellent data recovery software that's bundled in with all extreme III cards, so I managed to recover most of the images!:thumb:

Yep, just ordered a couple of Extreme IIIs for the bargain price of 18 quid each for now as the mkIII looks like it handles SD cards quicker so will have a rethink if and when i manage to rob a bank in time for it's release :D

Memorymegastore.com, and no one go saying they sell cheap knockoffs :mad::D said something about not coming with a carry case anymore, maybe that is why they're so cheap :confused: but they looked like a reputable company so thought it was worth the risk, 4 quid 1st class delivery on top, so under 40 quid delivered for the pair :thumb:

The last 2Gb Extreme III I bought said it had no carry case, but low and behold, inside was, you guessed it, a carry case:lol1:
