its simply not worth it for me and as u know i get somewhat frustrated and annoyed

i luv the game - hence y i keep and keep and keep trying each nite / session to play - then go and reconnect (on diff isp !) and try again !! then finally give up in disgust at yet another lagged death or a behind a f'kin wall death [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

last nite just the pits and i went and did other stuff.......

Dust - 3 T's pinging 40, 40, 70 !! 3 CT's pinging 70, 180 and me (180-250....lag to 1773 !!!)

on 1 round none of us even got down the the right hand bomb site b4 2/3 T's had reached it AND the bomb was planted as we were running to it !!

NFW is that fair / rite or playable IMHO.

and as for the number of times i shoot first.....on target b4 u say anything ! and yet a lpb turns, fires couple shots and i am dead despite 100 hp and armour ? or kills when i am behind a wall ??

as i have said B4 the discrepancy between the conn's people can have is ruining online gaming....well certainly CS as much as cheating is ?

the advantage a good player gains from a sub 70 ping against someone on 56k like me is tantamount to cheating(again IMHO....this is not the view of [STi] etc etc )

i'm currently playing Stronghold and have also just bought Rainbow 6 : Black Thorn and Ghost Recon. so i guess it time to play those. i also play Ultima Online as a m8 has his own server running 18hrs a day.

online gaming i am gonna do some AOE and i am gonna get back into Quake 2 / Team Arena and even Kingpin to see what they are like. Faster paced free-4-all's are not quite so bad to suffer lag in.

believe it or not i used to do quite well in CS on public servers when i started playing and was asked to join a CS Clan after about 4 weeks playing !! hard to believe seeing me play these days. but that was b4 the proliferation of so many lpb's (and good players who are lpb's )

no doubt i will play sometims, i do not play on public servers now and have not for weeks. i'll probably keep booking and playing on BW nites and sometimes i might feel the urge to play on mikes if a threads been posted.

i've been online gaming since the early quake / quakeworld days so its hard not to play. single player games just dont do it for me anymore....although for a few weeks i was heavily into Max Payne. the addition of voice comms to online gaming like CS is such a gr8 advance.....

but until the crap telecoms industry in this country catches up with a decent connection at a reasonable cost for ALL not just the select / lucky few............

so i'll still c u but less frequently i guess....and i might spectate for 5/10 mins sometimes as i did when u lot were on assault last nite.

its been good few yrs of gaming, but its not good anymore

Do you have two lines now - A Bt one and another ? - I would really consider going HomeHighway - it may work out cheaper ?. The chances of any ADSL roll-outs to small exchanges appears lesa likely than ever before. I'm only juts outside Ipsiwch (largeish town with ADSL) and theres almost no hope for ADSL. Considering Moving (about to put offer int today) to a village even close to town but still no adsl (I can check). ISDN is really the only practical solution for a couple of years.

Steve, as Deano says, if you can get ISDN then do so!

I had ISDN before NTL cable (booo hissss) and I have scene no difference in online gaming. Sure cable is good for large downloads etc but ISDN will be anthing up to 4x your 56kb download speed.
My mate Bog plays using ISDN and his ping is equal or better than mine most days.
You wouldn't regret it mate.

It would be great if everyone was playing on a level playing field but
thats not possible at the moment. Look into getting ISDN, it _will_ make
a difference. Also speak to Dizzy about getting his netcode hacks, it
would be a sham to miss out on all your 'wtf' and other comments.

Last night was a bit of a nightmare for me. Went 0 kills 10 deaths down
and whenever my tactics, someone terminated my enjoyment with a headshot
without me getting a shot off. Finally I took out all the opposition four
rounds in a row and they must have been having a 'wtf' moment.

i dont want to pay lots for a halfway better conn. i want decent speed broadband conn 4 which i willing to pay....ie 50k/sec download speeds like others get.

so wot download k/sec can i expect on a single line ISDN 64k ?

if lucky my 56k modem now gets me 4k/sec ?

on isdn I've heard ppl saying 8K/sec isn't uncommon (but pretty much the max) expect pings of anywhere between 70-120 (with some topo tweakin n decent isp I've seen pings of 60) couple of ppl in my clan play on isdn.

Was getting 55 more or less constant with freeserve and 64K isdn last night. downloads of about 7.4K/s if I leave it alone and dont surf Scoobynet in the background

Just confirming what dizzy said, you get almost double modem
speed down and triple up with a single isdn channel. Mike
consistently gets 60 pings on his server using isdn. Even
Neanderthal would be jealous with your pings that low!

You will be surprised how much better isdn is over 56k modems.
Have a chat with MikeeB and see what he says.

Generally my ISDN has got better and better recently, I'm averaging around 60-65 but have seen it once go to 45

I think the number of people deserting for ADSL might be benefitting us ISDN'ers, and it seems to be getting even better.

Why dont you stump up for ISDN as a stopgap, at least CS will be worth playing again ?

You need a session of Day of Defeat m8. Its not so dependant on a fast connection. I have moved away from CS due to the same problems you have been experiencing. Though I will be still making an appearance on CS nights, shifts and wife allowing.
