Hello there, I recently bought an incomplete project from a mate of mine. I bought it solely for the engine as it has had loads of work done to it. Hoever, the engine was still attached to the actual project, a two door saloon with the roof chopped off.
My friend had big plans to make this into a Impreza convertiable. I knew he would never get round to finishing it. He is too much of a perfectionist and has little patients to finish such a task.
Now, I'd planned to ripp the engine out and anything else of value and scrap the shell. Thing is as it sits there in my garage I'm begining to think that maybe my friend is'nt as made as I'd first thought, and that maybe it can be done.
At the moment it's near enough a bare shell, with only min running gear, the engine, box and diff are all out now.
The roof has been laser cut, and bracing bars have been fitted to keep the shell from twisting. What need to be done now is to strenghten the shell. Easier said than done.
Has anyone got experience in doing this conversation before. So far I have not had any joy it seems to be the first people have heard of.
I'm thinking of added a secondairy chassis, blending it into the shell. This while healp take the weight of the running gear off the shell but it will still need structural support and this is where I'm stuck.
Welding wise I'm sorted, my neighbour works for a rally team and knows all the right people. And yes, I have asked them guys for advice, they were the ones who suggested the secondairy chassis.
Cheers in advice.
