Hi,

Has anyone been to Rally Germany before? I am planning to drive over this year but need some advice on:

1) Places to stay - hotel names and locations (the official site has lots of info but its always good to get a recommendation).

2) What stages to see.

3) What times do the 1st and last stages run on a day? (is it similar to Rally GB).

4) If you have any copies of stage maps please pm me.

Any help would be really useful. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone recommend any specific hotels or do you all make arrangements through Rally Travel?

Also, are the stages run at simliar times as the UK? i.e. 1st and last stage of the day and what about car park opening times?

I've been a couple of times - it's nice rally to do. Normally very well organised with loads of parking on the various stages. If you not done it before then the packages that Rally Travel do are well worth a look. Their hotels are normally right in the middle of Trier. Travelling down is easy - it takes about 4 hours once you're through the Eurotunnel.

Make sure you go to the stages through the vinyards - always good to watch.

Been twice and thought it was very dissapointing as rallies go, the stages are far to spread out, the parking is a nightmare, you need to walk miles from the car parking to the stage just in time to see a car come round a corner then disapear up the road at warp factor 9, then you need to walk miles back to your car drive to the next stage then pay for parking again just to repeat what you just did, and if it is raining then my god does it rain, it doesn't just spit, you have torrential rain, 2004 was a prime example.

Also the spectator areas for some of the stages are naf and the marshalls are useless.

However if you can get to the Friday night party at the Subaru dealers in Trier or the saturday night party by Subaru GmbH near Baumholder then you will have a good time. Other than that the best part of going to rally Germany is the drive there and back on the autobahns.

Wurzel were you at the same rally I was?

I don't think I walked more than half a mile for any stage. On one we could have actually sat in the car and watched them go past!

It's all about forward planning for viewing! The weather you can't help - although on the times I've been there it has been great (try Wales in the winter for really crap rally weather).

Agreed, we had a great spot for the vineyards section and could see a massive section of the stage from our vantage point on the top of the hill. This involved the cars coming past us (about 6 feet away  ) and then watching them blast through a technical section, then right down the other side of the valley before disappearing from view....just in time for the next one to come past. :norty: :D

The nights out in Trier were great last year....maybe it was the group I was part of that made it more exciting, but I have already booked my spot on this years trip! :norty:

Is all the viewing in marshall controlled areas or can you walk along the stage like you can at times in Wales?

The weather does not matter, it's rallying - we have all experienced Wales!

Sounds good to me, just want to see some fast action on the black stuff, have a good time and enjoy the atmosphere. Also, looking forward to seeing the new Scoob model for the 1st time - think they will be using it then?

We go every year and stay in Trier and always thoroughly enjoy it. Compared to going rallying in the UK it's a doddle, quick and easy access to the stages via the autobahn, short walks from the car parks (except Baumholder where they lay on courtesy buses), warm weather (well, compared to the Yorkshire forests in winter anyway :D ), great maps and info, sausages at every stage :D, plenty of spectating options to get away from the crowds if you want and don't mind a bit of a walk.

The vineyard stages are stunning with some awesome scenery to enjoy whilst you wait for the cars to come through.

Trier is a fabulous town with a pedestrianised centre with lots of bars and restaurants so there's lots to do when you're not out on stage :thumb:

You can also follow the rally cars down the autobahn if you want eh boys? :D

Thanks Scoobychick, great overview - sounds like its not one to miss!

Can you recommend a hotel or do you go through Rally Travel? Guess its best to stay in Trier from an atmosphere point of view, but are the stages close by (noted you say they are easy from the autobahn) - 20, 30mins?

Also, do the stages run at similar times like they do in the UK?

Get even closer as the cars return to Parc Ferme. :notworthy (the day after this we actually followed Sarrazin right back through Trier, picked up our own Police escort and were brought right through this crowd! :D :D :D :D )

Even get Chris Atkinson to autograph your car if you wish! :D :D :D

We stay at the Primavera (Rallytravel). It's right in Trier (their other option, the NH, is a car ride from the town centre) and is about 200yards from parc ferme! and 5 mins walk to the official start and finish ceremonies.

Stop posting pictures like that SirFozzalot, it brings it all back and it's too long to wait.

Battenobbs, we go with Rally Travel and stay in the Primavera in the centre of Trier. They also use the Ramada which is 4 star and next to Parc Ferme and, the NH which is on the outskirts of town but very close to the motorway for quick getaways in the morning.

One leg is set up in vineyards fairly near to Trier, 20 - 30 mins drive, the other two are further away but are still only 40 - 50 mins away. All legs are pretty close to the autobahn which runs right from Trier so access is very good. Last year's maps are still on the official site here. (http://www.rallye-deutschland.de/~rallyede/v2/index_e.php) Look under 'competitors'.

Stage times are pretty much the same as the UK, I think you'll find them on that page too :) I think I read that the service park will be in Trier this year which will be good for all us lot based there :thumb:
