View Full Version : 911 versus Impreza Turbo

My mate has a MY98 standard Imprezza dn is always going on about how he'd 'blow away' my MY 2000 911 C4. I eventually took up the challange (this Impreza racing is a problem I mentioned earlier). It was on a track and we tested a variety of things i.e. 0-60, 0-100, full track, racing etc. The outcome was that he could'nt touch my 911 ;)

I know my car costs a lot more etc. but will people with Imprezas please stop trying to race their 'standard' cars against me

Not sure is this desrves to even be posted as this is an Impreza site and I must admit to having a soft spot for them :D

sorry but i would put a P1 or 22B against a carrera 4 anyday.

Power to weight ratio alone never mind outright power being very similar.

I have known standard imprezas with 280bhp to do 0-60 in under 4 secs (on accelerometer based measuring equipment which is accurate to .1 of a second). To me that puts it in 911 turbo territory up to 60. to 100 is a different matter altogether but I would still take on a carrera 4!

Evo 4x4 test tried them on track round mira in the wet and the porsche did not come close to even the rb5 which has uk power, I would tend to believe that kind of test which uses consistent drivers to achieve the results.

In the dry I dont know what teh story might be as the porche is practically rwd in those situations, but dont be quick to dismiss standard scoobs without considering which standard scoob you are talking about.

911 vs Scoob vs whatever

Age old arguement this one but it has to be said that local road knowledge is king !

IMHO all it takes is driving in a committed way down a well known road before most 911 drivers back off not wanting to stuff a £60k + motor.

Putting any variables into the equation i.e. wet, windy or light rain just makes the backing off come quicker . . . . that said bike baiting can be fun.

sorry rich but the discussion was clearly described as being related to on track and also to performance figures which can be more than compared.

Hi Adam,

I appreciate what you say and don't doubt that soem of the higher hp Impreza's can cut the mustard with the C4. What I was trying to point out, and this relates back to an earlier thread, was that standard UK Impreza drivers (and this is not everyone :)) seems desparate to race my C4 at any oppertunity on the road. I was trying to point out that my car is quicker than the norm. and that there is no need for me to rise to the bait :D.

I think that racing should be kept to the track, as most people on the road cannot appreciate what these machines are capable of, and you risk injuring not only yourself, but others too.

A lot of Impreza drivers can't wait to shout that 'I blew away a C4 today' or something like that. They don't always appreciate that there is a time and a place for high speed driving and 9 times out of 10, its for the track alone.

Well 911 boy a P1 is a standard uk impreza is it not? uk car and comes standard with 280 bhp, if they actually make that amount.
so hopefully we shall see your amazing C4 on the trackdays next year?
i mean just how quick are these cars? and just how many 911 owners would be confident to drive there pride and joy on the limit?

Hmm not impressed by the 911 I drove (though the dealer was great, and very helpful). Anyway at road speeds I think a standard UK car would have no problem keeping up... However where an impreza would slow from accelerating the 911 would pull hard. The car I drove was 993C4. Used to like porsches, but I was completely unimpressed by the car I drove

Its quite amused me reading this thread and others of "911 boys" on Porches.Generally I find that 911 drivers are BOTTLERS and talk mainly from their rear facing orifice where the highest grade of human compost is often deposited of their own freewill at frequent intervals:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: thats providing any other klingon is'nt blocking the Orifice at the time(Possibly the owner, the "head" up their own arse position is usually achievable)

Right where does all this hatred towards 911 drivers stem from............well nowhere really, just the fact that I,in my cheapo(£16,500) ugly my01 chocolate engined Wrx have had the pi55 took out off me when confronted by your as described above typical 911 driver at the lights...........on a duel carriageway...........in the wet or dry.............not once but several times.............Yes yes you get the picture right:o:o:o:o
The lights go to Green,he edges in front and proceeds to slowly move away in a desperate bid to prove the extra ££££ worth of his "chunk of metal" compared to my lesser Tin can, unfortunately the Duel carriageway only runs for 1.5 miles where we both turn onto a twisty 'B' Road and what does he do? SLOWS DOWN...........WHY I ASK MYSELF?????images/smilies/mad.gifimages/smilies/mad.gifimages/smilies/mad.gifimages/smilies/mad.gif,So anyway he continues at a pace that limits my chances of overtaking but what any Rep in a Mondeo could manage comfortably,so morning after morning I put up with his Smug Grin at the lights, and then the reflection from the Sweat on the back of his neck once on the proper road and so on....
Yesterday morning was different, yes he was at the lights, yes he was wearing his grin and YES he left me standing again, however on entering the B road he DID'NT slow down where as I did...........I could almost see the smile reflecting in his mirror from my 250yrd position behind him BUT I was concentrating more on my outside temperature gauge which was reading -2c !!!!:eek::eek::eek: OH DEAR, I remember thinking as I saw him enter THE bend and travel accross the double white lines with the back end trying to catch up gracefully,he then went out of sight........................Until I cautiously tiptoed around the corner only to find a rather pi55ed off looking chap facing the wrong way in a hedge,In true Scoobynetter fashion I casually pulled up alongside him dropped the window and enquired into his health and current feelings:cool:,once satisfied that it was only his Ego that was in pieces I drove off and with a pip of the horn I was gone...............:D

Strange thing,I never saw him this morning...............I wonder why?????????????Surely a motor of such class is fitted with an OAT gauge or does that only come as an optional extra along with a drivers brain

"911 Boy" My comments are not aimed at you in any way(I don't even know ya)I just thought it would be a nice story to tell at a time of sudden climate change and in the interests of Road Safety ;);););)

Sorry 555 Boy, Adam M is right that this is after all the Motorsport Forum and the original post did clearly state track !

Therefore I accept that the 911 is the Holy Grail that man has searched for and it is only right that the few can drink from that blessed cup.

but if 911Boy was to wander around my neck of the woods I am sure I could show him a trick or two . . . . ( note to self : stop winding up 911,TT,S2000,Z3,M3 owners ) surely there must be a 911 forum someplace ?

! sp3ll check !

WTF! these things always have a habit of backfiring on me!
yep you can have 3 at 15k, no V5 or keys, what do you want
for 15k. LOL
i meant you can pick a 911 up for 15k not a C4. but you said a 911 is the holy grail? not a specific model MY2000 c4.
my dads bigger than your dad my mum could have your mum! LOL:D

I have to agree with 911 boy about the fact that his C4 wouls beat a standard UK Impeza into the ground (that's not a P1, a standard one is just that, no P1 or imorted WRX version as he stated).

I do agree that some 911 divers can be a bit up themselves, but then 911 boys MY 2000 C4 would cost about 50K even second hand, so he does have the right to be a bit smug :D:D:D.

I did like the story about the guy losing it, but nob heads can drive any car at the end of the day ;)

I've got an Evo 6 at the moment and would love to own a C4, but not necessarilty for the raw speed, more for the style etc....they are well .

Sorry, but after my Ring trips, I don't even consider C4's worthy opponents for UK Scoobs. Watch 'CK1 @ The Ring' (when my car was virtually standard), or even 'Cossiekiller 2 - Return to The Ring' when it comes out, if you want to see why! :D
As has been said many times before, it's more down to the driver than the car.

I have a vid somewhere off the net of a Scooby blowing a 911 away with ease..

I've seen it too, but It was a Highly Modified Scoob against a standar 911.

My car owning goals at the moment include a 911 (993) after the Scoob of course :D
