Taken at the Kariega game reserve in the Eastern Cape : here (http://www.cawte.nildram.co.uk/SouthAfrica06/Safari/index.htm).

All shots taken with either a Canon 1DmkII / 100-400L IS or Canon 1D / 24-70L.

Very nice.

Like the yawning :eek2: lion :norty: .

Brings back memories from a few years ago when I went. Haven't managed to see Leopard yet - although did spot one for a nano second in jeep headlights.

Makes me want to go back :thumb:

Great pics Andy :) Very nice work.

Most safari pics are rubbish, IMHO. I know you're quite handy with a camera, but did you have to work really hard for those images, or were they more or less there for the taking? No disrespect mate - just if it's the latter I quite fancy a go myself ;)

Was Jay Kay fed to the lions :lol1:

Thanks mate :) It's nice to hear someone outside my immediate friends & family saying they like them ;)

Some, like the tortoise and the spiders, were just there to be photographed - no special skill required at all. The tricky thing about the other animals is that they're always moving, even if not very quickly, so maintaining sharp focus on the eyes requires some effort. It was overcast most of the time, so wide apertures and high ISO (800 in most cases) were the order of the day, which in turn meant that DoF was quite shallow.

A web-sized image can hide a multitude of sins, of course. Most of the pics I've posted have had some combination of cropping, local contrast enhancement, exposure correction and USM.

'Jay' was our ranger for the trip - if anyone was going to be fed to the cats...
