View Full Version : How much is my D70 kit worth?
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 12:20 I'm hoping there'll be enough to buy a tele 'L' lens with the proceeds...
D70 + spare battery - 2 years old and in awesome condition.
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR - 1 year old and again mint. never bumped, dropped, scratched. always had a skylight filter on it - fitted in Grays of Westminster where i got the lens.
Nikon 50mm f/1.4 2 years old
Nikon DX18-70mm harldy used
Nikon 70-300G - used on a single trip to Barcelona. bit of a ropey lens to be honest, even when in mint condition lol
is it better to sell the D70 + 18-70mm + 50mm + G lens together and the VR lens separately?
What do you all think?
John@TunerUK 28 December 2006, 12:35 Depends on how many shot's it's taken really. Check the exif info of your last shot. Nikon kindly add the shutter count to the exif:thumb:
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 12:36 i've been round the clock
John@TunerUK 28 December 2006, 12:42 :lol1: Well bear in mind that my old D70 gave up the ghost at just under 30,000 cycles. Just over a year of use. Whichh apparently is a typical shutter count for a D70. If yours has plenty left to go, then it's going to be worth more than one with 25,000 cycles on the clock:thumb:
John@TunerUK 28 December 2006, 12:43 Hmmm, out of interest, what would you want for the 70-200 VR, should you decide to sell sepperately?
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 12:50 Not sure yet.
I'm not allowed to sell anything until i get the 5D... and I'm not allowed to buy the 5D until my bonus is declared... end of Jan.
Of course, when i say "I'm not allowed to buy the 5D", it actually means my g/f is buying it for me :D She's getting me 5D + 50mm f/1.2L + Battery grip :)
John@TunerUK 28 December 2006, 12:59 How come you're changing to Canon? You already have some cracking Nikon lenses, and in my personal opinion the Nikon bodies are far superior.
I've used various Canon bodies, including an EOS 1D MkII, 350D, 20D, and 300D but have always preffered the Nikon layout.
And for 5D money you could have a D200. Are you just not a fan of Nikon?
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 13:13 I'm a big fan of the old style Nikon, Leica, etc 50mm film cameras, especially iconic togs like Lee Miller.
Basically I want a good 50mm FF or 35mm cropped sensor setup. I don't think the nikkor 35mm f/2 is good enough and I'd rather not have to get used to a manual 35mm f/1.4 either.
the 5D is a good choice of low light capable camera and is cheaper than a D2X and 1DSmkII. I don't think the low light performance is good enough on the D200. with the 5D+50mm f/1.2 I'd be happy not to get another lens at all, but the gf wants me to get a zoom for when we go on safaris, etc.
I guess it's all subjective really. I'm not very good, but I'm keen and I need to be happy about this next camera for the next 3 years or so.
John@TunerUK 28 December 2006, 13:19 :thumb: Fair doo's fella. What sort of low light photography is it you're into?
69WRX 28 December 2006, 13:36 You wont regret going to a 5D.
Love mine :thumb:
Bought mine from jessops as a package with the 24 - 105 F4L IS USM.
This way your only paying £450 for the lens which you could sell easy for £600 if you did'nt want it.
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 14:35 What sort of low light photography is it you're into?
Portrait; candid, events, the odd gig, but when travelling i'll shoot architecture too. not really interested in landscapes - have to clean the sensor too often lol
ChefDude 28 December 2006, 14:37 69wrx, jessops are a bit expensive at the moment
Jamesemt 28 December 2006, 18:12 I thought Jessops price matched?
