View Full Version : Blocked Toilet Vent pipe

Morning,

I "teed" into the vent pipe to add an upstairs toilet, however .....

I think the vent pipe was full of leaves as it is now blocked and full of "other stuff".

At the base just under the ground, will it have an elbow or a trap ? I like an elbow as that is easier to rod and can not see that a trap would be of use, as it would not allow it to vent ??

What do you think ?

Thanks

A bird's nest?

Can you remove the T you put in, and shove whatever's blocking it UPWARDS?

You really don't want any of it to go downwards, as it could block your drains.

There should be an elbow underground, not a trap.

Get an anti-bird thingy for the top;)

As alcazar said, there should be a rest bend at the bottom of a soil stack, not a trap.

Alcazar,

Alas, no it can not be pushed upwards.

The plan is...........

The iron pipe now sticks out of the ground 4ft, I have taken from the "T" upwards off. I can not push the rod down 4ft and get it to bend into the elbow so, I was going to get the pipe at about 6inch from the ground - I know the pipe is full off cr*p, and this should allow me to get the rod round the elbow.

This then runs 3ft until it then joins the main drain and this is only about 12ft from a manhole cover so I should be able to rod whatever blockage is there to the manhole and take it out. I then just rebuild the vent pipe with plastic pipe and put a "cap" on it.

I am averagely confident that this will work !!

When I replaced the toilets in my house, some years ago, I removed all cast iron pipe, and replaced it with black uPVC.

Is that possible? Cast iron pipe breaks VERY easily if you tap it hard enough with a heavy hammer, like a 4 lb bricky's.
