View Full Version : RAC Tracking - useless or what?
Martin2005 13 December 2006, 18:10 Rang up the RAC, to find out whether my tracker was working properly, as I've never heard anything from them and it's draining my battery at a stupid rate (flat if not started within 2 days). They said they'd run a test track on it, low and behold they cant get a signal. Now the cheeky sods want £85 to come a fix it.
So in summary I've being paying for a service that doesn't work, that flatterns my battery, and now I have to pay them to come and fix it. Thank god my cars wasn't stolen as I expect that there are all kind of clauses that ensure they are never liable.
Anyone had this kind of 'fun' with them:razz:

Martin2005 13 December 2006, 18:16 So it's good when it actually works then!
Abdabz 13 December 2006, 18:23 Yeah, they were good with mine fella, but each brand of tracker get a mixed reception on here... It's shame they appear to have done you over...
LitchfieldImports 13 December 2006, 19:00 Hi Martin,
I can have Tim look at it on Saturday if it helps?
Regards
Iain
JohnD 13 December 2006, 19:03 Mine would drain the battery regularly but I finally had the offending unit (there are 3 parts to the system) replaced after it was proved that it was not entering "sleep" mode at all, let alone after a long time! It was done under the cars warranty at no cost to me, other than I had to leave it with them to test the drain overnight and then again after the new unit was fitted. It's been fine since.
If you have any warranty on the car, it should be covered.

Cheers Iain, that would be great thanks
Geoff Twibell 14 December 2006, 12:31 I guess this is RAC Trackstar as fitted to the P1.
No technical problems but not happy when I sold the car after just paying a year's subscription and was refused a part refund by Trackstar. Even less pleased when, in the same breath, they asked me for the new owner's details so they could hit him up for a new year's sub! I think I was able to find some appropriate words of reply.....

wolfie28 14 December 2006, 14:21 I hear you Martin. Load of cr@p in my opinion, took 5 attempts to find me when I wanted to test the system over a 3 week period at various places :Suspiciou . Used to get a discount off your insurance if you had one, now many insurance companies don't care or say you have to have one fitted, no discounts though .
Good job I took out the lifetime subscription :brickwall.

XRS 14 December 2006, 15:35 I have the speed safe option with mine and it works well. On the one occasion I rang them up to see if they knew where my car was they did, and when Tim drove it off on a trailer once I received a phone call.
My theory is that by having the speed safe so long as it keeps warning me of cameras it must know where the car is. Having said all that, I don't have the battery-draining problem either.

Cheers XRS, my problem with them is that they seem to expect the owner to know if the tracker is working, without doing a test track every 5 minutes how is this possible? Surely it's up to them to know whether it's working or not:confused:
newbiefreddy 14 December 2006, 20:02 Has any one ever got their car back after its been stollen due to the tracker?????:wonder:
HOWY 15 December 2006, 19:04 Has any one ever got their car back after its been stollen due to the tracker?????:wonder:a
Once saw a TV program where the police retrieved a car which had a tracker in it ! but it would be interesting to see the statistics of how many cars with trackers that are stolen are actually recovered
