We have been in our new house for just over 18months now, and have only just thought about getting the boiler serviced.. it all works fine and is not making any noises, just want to keep it that way..
Boiler is an Ideal Classic FF350
What is done to the boiler during a service ? (from what I have seen in the past they just give it a hoover out). Is it necessary to get someone in to do the job, or can it be done yourself ?
Cheers..

They should also check the combustion outlet for dodgy gases etc. You don't want a house full of carbon monoxide do you?
When Bg did mine they also checked gas pressures etc. Seemed fairly thorough. I wouildn't do it yourself unless you're a plumber - get one that'll give a certificate/guarantee. That may mean Corgi regstered? I'm sure someone will correct me on this ....

we pay BG a fee per month basically its insurance they will fix the boiler should any problems arise and if neccessary replace it.
As part of this service they will do an annual service on the boiler and check that all radiators are operating correctly etc

Where abouts are you?
Theres a few guys on here that are corgi registered so there may be someone close to you who could do it.

Yep hutton_d was right, only CORGI registered peeps are allowed to do this task.
BG contracts are not worth the money TBH. They are ok for old biddies who need there systems on 24/7, but anything less than this and you will end up paying more in the long term.
There is more to a service than just hoovering out!!! New condensing boilers have "condensate traps" that need cleaning out ONCE A YEAR!!! These really do get clogged with crap and must be cleaned on a service!!! IF the boiler is just "flue gas analysed" this is simply not enough!!! BG have a habit of only doing this on their so called "sevices" and it is not what I would class as a proper job.
Anything short of removing a specific amount of components and spending at least one hour, IMHO is not a good service...

At least over 1hr to service a wall hung domestic boiler that is 18 months old. I would say if I could not do an excellent job in under 1hr I would need sacking.;)
