Going to get round to re-do the whole kitchen as it looks really cr4p :freak3:

Any idea as to rough costs for new cupboards, labour charges, etc? I'm not looking to turn it into a 5 star hotel, just make it more user friendly and cleaner looking.

I think that it will really depend on how many units etc etc, go to b and q with the shape and size of the kitchen they will do a design for you and show you what is best for you and the£

i think ikea have an online estimating and design service. plug what you want into that, print it and take it to a few other places for comparable quotes

Hiya mate

i have replied to your PM. Obviously depending on the size of the kitchen... you can pick up an average size kitchen including built in cooker and sink, taps etc for about £800 upwards.

Wickes have a good selection of 'off the shelf' kitchens which are of good quality and good value! Worth taking a look in there. Ikea kitchens are a bit cheaper but they are not as good!

it depends how far you want to go,cause you can get carried away & it all adds up.The basic kitchens normaly cost 5 to 10k.don't forget floor&wall tiles plus the new kettle, lights etc. stiggy

Wickes do a design service and will give you a 3d picture to look at and its very good......B & Q are hard to beat but aftersales service can be a bit dodgy.
£4k to £5k will get you a decent kitchen with appliances to fit yourself

Is it a case of places like B & Q, etc and other DIY chains do you a good competitive price on kitchen items but try and rip you off on the fitting costs if you let them fit it-as opposed to either fitting it urself or getting your own kitchen fitters in?

yes i am sure.....

You will have to take into account tiles, flooring, paint, plumbing fittings, grout, adhesive etc, but you will get away with it all for under £2k if you wanted to do it cheaply

oh and if you go into wickes or similar places and ask them to design a kitchen for you, they will get units that are on order which are twice as expensive as the 'take away' kitchens

£800 for a kitchen are you sure?

supply only excl appliances - i'm sure that's achievable. i bought my first replacement kitchen in our first property from wickes. was about £900 excl the appliances (which i bought through a trade supplier). fitted it myself and got a carpenter in to mitre the worktops. money well spent

Thanks for your input guys :thumb:

I've just been browsing Ebay for used kitchens to see if a bargain could be bagged :wonder: but not looking so spend a fortune as I've got the rest of the house to do as well ...and unfortunetly my money tree isn't blossoming quite like how I'd like it to.

Dan, I got your PM and will speak to you once I know what it is I'm going to get. Also can you do the required plumbing work, tiling, etc

I've just fitted this one, got it a MFI in the sales eailier this year, units, sink/taps worktops etc (not the appliances tho) = £527
oven/hob/extractor from Wicks £329

I fitted everything up. I've only had my joiner butt joint fit the work top and put plinths on for me, charged me £100 cash ;)

under shelf lighting you can get from ScrewFix or B&Q about £10 a strip

tiles + grout were from East Midlands Ceramics, £65
adhesive £10 a tub.

I've fitted the doors under the sink last night and all the trim is now fitted... by me :) dead chuffed with the results.
