I am having a new door fitted as somebody tried to break into it while i was away. I asked the door man if it ws possible to put a motor on it and he said yes no problem £350 please.. Now while he has to make a living i can buy the motors for £200. How easy are these to fit? And is there anybody local to portsmouth who could quote?
Cheers nick

You can get a motor from Wickes even cheaper than that, buit the quality will suffer + the remotes will not have a rolling code, I have a machine that replicates these codes, so if you value what is in your garage, use one with rolling code technology :)

I fit motors for £410 inc VAT fitted (and I do not get into fitting crap that is unreliable) , for £350 you are going to get a bottom end motor (possibly chain driven).

The one I fit is made by Novoferm and is the 553 model, comes with 5 year motor warranty and works on a Kevlar belt operation.

If you have any problems or want more advice PM me and I will send you my number :thumb: , and yes, I have done quite a few doors + motors for the Essex Scooby Crew ;)

Or even let me know the model of motor that is being fitted, and I will let you know my view on it :)

I just fitted a Cardale Operator on my door. Very Very good bit of kit, i decided just to get a Chain Driven on and its Quite. It was pretty easy to install, but since mine is a up and over i needed a Bow Arm. i got the full kit delivered for £325, wil rolling code, two remotes and all the instructions. If you would like some photos i will send you them.

B&Q do a kir for £200 all in but liek the gent above said the quality may be poor

Chain ones are crap then are they Nate? I have a chain one on a metal double garage door, was on the house from new ( 5 years now) came with 2 remotes & has been faultless in daily use ever since :thumb:

btw, do the Essex ones come with stickers & DV's ;)

Simo,

I am not saying they do not last well, just that technology comes on, rolling codes for security, kevlar belt for quieter operation etc. You can get the chain ones relatively cheap, but I prefer Kevlar :D

Same goes for cars, they go on for years also, but doesn't stop people having a newer one ;)

Ps. Essex ones do come with stickers and flame kits :thumb:

Does anyone know of a good (cheap) website for garage doors?

What, you want a cheap website, or a good deal on a garage door ;)

Wickes are going to be the cheapest for a garage door .......... Quality and after sales are not all that good though (and make sure the door is good condition before the delivery drivers leave !! i.e take all the wrapping off !!). IIRC, you can get a 7x7 from Wickes for around £250 , then your time to fit it, maybe a new timber frame if it is starting to rot ..............

Give me a pm if you want my opinion :thumb: , I won't give you the hard sell :D

Its a slow start and open too to keep noise down

Andy,

The Soft start/Stop is also to keep parts from being suddenly jerked at a single speed ;)
