2nd head gasket of this year failed this morning driving to work . Don't think there is much damaged caused as I switch the engine off once the water temp reached 100 degrees and had the AA tow my car home. So deciding to ditch the V2 RA heads a fit some V3 STi heads instead along with new stud bolts and gaskets. As the V2 heads have been skimmed once already and I've suspected a cracked cylinder head for some time as slight hesitation once coming on to full boost even after regapping the plugs three times and changing the coil packs. So I'm starting to strip the engine tomorrow and hope there is no damage to my block. Subaru ownership is becoming very costly!.
Has anyone else blown two head gaskets in 9 months?.

Did not think the scoob was prown to HGF lets hope its a one off.

 

Apparently they are when running 2.5 bottom ends.

cossies arnt even that bad,why not go for a malty layer wrc gasket.

 

When I looked into going down the 2.5 route, it seemed to be a common fault, have a word to David at Api as mines held up since being built 01926 614333.

Is it a standard head gasket or upgraded?

 

1.2mm cometic gaskets so a increased width over standard to allow for the cylinders heads being reskimmed. Avoided extra cost on 14mm head studs bolts though and fitted standard head bolts. So head movement when the boost pressure was raised after remap was the likely cause.
