Like meny off here, I am going to the WRC this weekend.

I was just wandering what advice fellow Scoobynetter's can give to make the weekend a bit better?

If your going for a meal in Cardiff - mine would be to go to the Thai Edge, a bit pricey but well worth it.

P.S, If you have not already done so, read the thread about the speed cameras, it might save you some grief!

When it moved to Wales, we always stayed in Merthyr.

Was always a good night out, nice n' cheap, central location and we always got these villa-style apartments, where we could cause havoc until the wee hours. Plus they always got up to do a full on breakfast, regardless of time. :)

All this talk, i wish i was going now. Could do with standing in a forest all w/end, smoking bangers and having a laugh. (With the occassional car whazzing past!) :D

I quite fancy this but don't really know much about what you have to do as a spectator. Where can you get access to the route plans? Are there any costs involved? Do they suggest places to stand or make you stand in certain places. Etc.

If you've never been, your in for a treat. The TV coverage just doesn't to the cars or drivers justice. My car is loud but these are in another league:norty: You will not get closure to anyother motorsport without spending alot of money. You get to pick your spot which can be within meters of the course. I was shocked when I went for the first time, cars blasting round tiny forest tracks at 100mph+ only about 1.5 meters from where I was sat, Just make sure your not sat on the outside of corner (You'll either get run over if they have an off or get covered in grit or stones) The atmosphere is just awesome, it was pissing with rain but I still had a really good time.

Following on from Danny's post. You will be in for a real treat. Don't stand on the outside of a corner, although i doubt marshalls will let you. Otherwise you'll have piano teeth :D You are that close you can almost touch them, and the anti-lags etc, it's just excellent. Damn, i wanna go now...

Everything you'll want to know about routes etc, is probably on:
Wales Rally GB (http://www.walesrallygb.com/artman/publish/index.php)

It is compulsary to eat from the maggot-vans on stage. :D

Shame there is not as many top flight drivers competing, because you can see & feel the pace drop off. It used to be after the top 8, but it will probably after Gronholm has gone past

Grab yourself a an air horn.
Take plenty of good waterproof clothes.
A carrier bag in the pocket to sit on.
I always enjoyed timing them as well, so you could see who was fastest up to that point in the stage.

Be nice to the marshalls

Or more specifically, be nice to ME !!!!!! :D

Warm clothing, good boots and waterproofs. And plastic bags to sit on in case it tips it down and you want to take a seat between runs.!

Be prepared to sit in long ques and always go to the stage after the one you think you have time to get to.

OK if you like mickey mouse stages...not really rallying though IMHO. It's just for the sponsors.
Rallying is all about geting cold/wet/sprayed with gravel and pissing in the woods out of range of flying rocks.

Is it going to be one of those special stages where two cars compete areound a track or just a case of thats where the previous stage ends and where the cars all end up?

Still trying to talk the Mrs into it.

Normally it's where two cars start the stage concurrently, but due to space, the Millenium stadium superspecial only has one car on track. The car will end up at park ferme in Felendre at the service park.

IMHO the stadium not rallying either, but if you have never been before, go to the stadium and experience the atmosphere as last year it was excellent. The air horns and the noise the cars make is great.

I also repeat the above sentiment re the time it takes to get to the stages, as there is usually chaos as everyone trys to get there before the main cars go through. That world rally pass will come in useful:norty:

Go! You won't regret it.

Commend your dedication sir!

It's all about the sport.....and the driving through some of the best roads in the country. My tip is to leave plenty of time to get to the stage, then look at the map for the wiggliest road you can find to get there - you will not be dissapointed.

All this talk of cameras might put people off - Last year was like one big scoob track day at times. You just need to make sure you dont take the piss!

Haven't done the RallyGB but I went to the WRC stage in Germany earlier this year and the whole weekend was completely awesome! :notworthy

We had VIP passes (available from rallytravel etc.) and they were well worth it. Get access in to the SWRT compound in the service park. Get right next to the cars being worked on, meet the drivers as they enter/exit the cars + get complimentary drinks and somewhere to shelter out of the rain! :D
