View Full Version : Speed Camera Heads-up
StiX 29 November 2006, 09:46 Apologies if this is old news, but a good mate of mine told me last night, that the camera van which was regularly on the bridge near Junction 35 (Pencoed) by St Mary's Golf Club has been changed recently.
Apparently they are now using a tripod camera system on the bridge, and parking the van out of the way so its not so obvious. Presumably as every bugger (including me) slowed down until they saw whether the van was there, and then sped up if it wasn't.
So I have not seen this yet myself, but have a look out just in case.
Blue Dragoon 29 November 2006, 09:56 The van and tripod are there sometimes. Camera points one way, the van the other!!!!!
StiX 29 November 2006, 11:43 Ah, ok. I've only ever seen the van. I'll have a closer look next time I see him.
GarethE 29 November 2006, 11:56 I've seen the tripod system set up westbound at 35 - two cameras, one each over lanes 2 and 3, the van is then tucked off to the left.
They are still fairly easy to spot as those who know the section should have already slowed down and be looking out for the van - in which case you should spot the tripods - AND they were pointing westbound themselves, ie filming the rear reg plate after you have passed under the bridge.
I thought they were ANPR cameras / tax cameras - didn't look like a speed trap - especially as at the time Prince Charles was in the area. I suspect they use ANPR when VIPs are around as apart of the VIP Protection setup.
I'm always on that section - I'll keep my eyes open - as usual
Gareth
ZippyLane 29 November 2006, 17:27 God.. they get worse.. the money grabbing barstewards.. :(
kjdmk1 29 November 2006, 19:17 ANPR scameras :p
NoCatSTI 29 November 2006, 20:35 Just to add to the agony, I was told today by one of the cheif stewards of an up comming national rally:wonder: (wonder what that might be) that there are 40 camera vans deployed this weekend down the 'M4 corridor' wherever that is.. :(
Might be worth keeping an eye out for them then...
Cheers Paul
kjdmk1 29 November 2006, 20:44 Stick to the speed limit, its a lot easier ;)
sammyh 29 November 2006, 22:43 Very much doubt it as part of the camera partnership regulations is that the camera must be marked and visable either in a van or not. My bet is that its anpr :)
pippyrips 29 November 2006, 23:25 what is an ANPR?
sammyh 29 November 2006, 23:30 Automatic Number plate recogntion system :) it'll flag up cars with no tax etc and if its on the police / mi5/6 watch list even if the previous owner was dodgy it'll flag the car :)
My number plates were stolen on one of my old cars whicjh I reported and 6 months later I drove through one of these and they pulled me to check the car was mine and so on :)
WRX RCY 30 November 2006, 12:01 I always thought that these camera's had to be highly visable otherwise it was entrapment. Please correct me if I'm wrong

Takes about 0.5 secs to give an indication to a mobile police unit

Trap2Terrorist 02 December 2006, 00:48 You should also be aware that for the last year at least the camera van (quite rightly pointed out already that it's sometimes replaced with a man/tripod now) is on the bridge at J35 (Bridgend).
Recently he's started parking about 3 bridges EAST on the M4 of his usual spot at J35.
Also, a few people at work have started talking about camera vans being spotted out at night, not something you normally see. On Tuesday this week I drove home in the dark through Corntown (nr. Bridgend) and low and behold, a camera van parked on the side of the road. I slowed down to peer through the back window and notices a red reflection, similar to the lense on a Truvelo camera, ie. infrared. :wonder:
Camera vans that can clock you at night!!??!! Could be....:Suspiciou

get it tested then mate, i had mine tested the other week and its still working fine, make sure the sensor is still in the right place on the car, if its moved slightly it won't jam properly.

I've seen them out at night recently too. Not sure of the technology used but they can and will get you in the dark, they just don't have many on these cameras - yet:(

The jammer activated!!!! Alarm and flashy lights and all that but still got Nip, They are now using what they call stealth mode on the lasar's.
I'm Looking to change it for the new parking sensor one:norty:
