Hi,

last year I took a few pictures of a jump, see here:

http://www.f1album.com/albums/sport/motor/rally/2005/wrc/wales/GB-WRC05-D2X-720c.jpg

looking at the date and time of the images ( 17th Sept 15:40 ish ) it looks like it was Crychan. Can anyone tell me where on the stage this jump is so I can find it again ? I had my GPS with me last year but managed to clear the track before making a note of any of the coordinates.

cheers,

The picture is from this album: F1 Album/BTCC Album - Wales Rally GB Sept 2005 by Simon Gniadkowski (http://www.f1album.com/thumbnails.php?album=52)

I remember parking and walking for about an hour along the stage, to the right of the jump there was a hill and we could see the cars working their way up towards the corner (a left) not far before the jump.

This show the jump viewed from the left side:http://www.f1album.com/albums/sport/motor/rally/2005/wrc/wales/GB-WRC05-D2X-678.JPG

this shows the view off to the right showing the approach up the hill:

not much to go on I'm afraid.

thanks.

i was at that spectating point in 2003 - the car park poistion back then was next to it, but this year it's miles away which could make viewing that section
tricky

it's not really a massive jump, the better viewing area we also watched at on the second run through was at post 9

they came over the jump
http://images3.fotopic.net/?iid=y1yev6&outx=600&noresize=1&nostamp=1

down a slight hill

http://images4.fotopic.net/?iid=y1yevu&outx=600&noresize=1&nostamp=1

then a tricky left uphill bend, camber

http://images1.fotopic.net/?iid=y1yevr&outx=600&noresize=1&nostamp=1

then over that crest, right a bit, into a forest fast bit down to post

http://images1.fotopic.net/?iid=y1yevw&outx=600&noresize=1&nostamp=1

, then flew past us on the straight after it

here's this years map

stuck the arrow in where the jump area is :)

got videos of said sections, will try to find them for ya :thumb:

Great, thanks, looks like you have nailed it for me. Sounds like the car park I went to last year was F and that was why I had a long walk.

Thanks again.

Spot on, ddb85's absolutely right. The spot is just about by post number 8, thats 7.69km from start and marked as limited spectator access. Its on a high peak more or less directly above the sand quarry area. If anyone knows this area its a virtually impossible climb to the top. The overnight car parking was here (sand quarry) in 1999 and 2000. One of the best partys on the event.

Thanks for that Hodgey. I know the place well and it is potentially very dangerous for spectators (not to mention cars), especially on the outside just after the jump.

Last year we were alowed to stand on the right side, literally a few yards after the jump, after the Course cars and helicopter had been through.

I wouldn't call it a dangerous place to stand but I was a little surprise when the marshalls alowed us to go there. It was good to be able to get some pics of a jump for a change.

From what I have seen it looks like the taped area and designated spectator areas are the same as last year, if the marshals have the same attitude as last year I'll be making the effort to walk there. :)
