Hi,
I'm looking at my rally planner and have noticed it says that the car parks for Resolfen open at 07:00 on Fri 1st - this is only 3hrs before the stage is run! Is this correct or a mistake??

The same happens on some other stages too.

Are we not allowed to arrive at midnight and sleep in the car anymore??

Any ideas?

yes we used to stay over night on wednesdays for the shakedown

So why are they opening the car parks so close to the stage start time?

This way there will be ques down the road, rather than people parked up, enjoying the atmosphere (and smell of early morning bacon) in the car parks!

Are they trying to take the fun out of things?

Although, based on previous years, they will probably open them earlier than stated so that you turn up 'on time' and have to park at the bottom!

All seams a bit strange to me - any other input??

Too right Tez, just turn up at carpark entrance 9 times out of 10 they'll wave you through, but sometimes you get the odd jobsworth who's to scared to bend the rules lol.. just talk nice and butter him up, and your in...then party on ppl...............

i can remember a few years back when 1 of the carparks was going to open at midnight but by 8pm the village was packed with parked cars blocking roads and even driveways
about 9pm the police turned up and forced them to open the carpark so this might happen this year ?

Sounds like we all have the same plan then! (should be a laugh)

Are you all off to Resolfen then? What other stages are you doing?

Deffo doin rheola,, found a good hairpin left (J23) into a v fast and v steep downhill into a sweeping left hander a few years ago.. always vowed to return.. awesome veiwing... wots the chances of parking in aberdilais village nr the waterfalls and walking into stage through some undergrowth lol..
Looks like it's Petter vs The fords this yr then...:)

If you're going to Resolfen, near the Abercregan carpark there's the mountainbike centre (where I work) it's got a huge carpark, & campsite and I can't see any problem with anyone parking up & sleeping in the car there overnight. Wake up in the AM. and go to the DROP OFF CAFE and get a full Wenglish brekky, then a 2 min drive to the stage carpark. Check your maps for Glyncorrwg, and head there to find the centre.
Camping facilites are available for the brave, but you'll need to book in advance ring 01639850011 ask for Kev, and I'll get you the info, or the No. for Leigh to sort out camping.

That's a hell of a trek. I'd park up in Glynneath and walk in thru the footpath near the end of the stage and go up to J19/20 tight hairpin uphill. If you walk up the stage from there you'll get to a good jump. If you get to J23, from there, You can also get to J7 and watch the the 1st 6-7 cars thru some tight hairpins. Then come back down & catch them again thru J23. I went up there last week for a look. It's quite a wide junction on a crossroads and should be good viewing.

When you guys mention 'J7' etc what exactly do you mean? Is the corner number or something?

the numbers mentioned are post numbers.
along the stage are marked out corners or junctions (for radio cars, ambulances, fire trucks, helicopters, media and spectators)
hope this helps.

In the 15yrs we have been following the RAC..Rally GB..we've done, the car park opening times have never been adheared to. Turn up at night for the next days carpark / day's stage and i'll bet it'll be open. Only once did we have to wait to enter, only for the Hedlu to arrive and demand the carpark to opened, as per a mile long queue on the road. If anything leave the last stage of the day early, so you get a good spot in the night carpark sleep over to ensure a shorter walk the following morning

If you can get well into car park D it looks like a 1.7 mile walk to get to J23
