My mate has recently bought himself a 1200GS Adventure – he wants me to do the same. However it’s out of my price range so I’m considering a 640 Adventure R.
My question is would I be able to keep up with him on the road (46 less hp but also 101lbs lighter)? He likes to ride fast and he’s quick to overtake but he’s not a loony

Sounds like your going to try n ride like a loon to beat him anyway GCS?
Me thinks once you get to 3 figure speeds you'll be struggling...
You'll be stopping first anyway, GS's have a good old tank range..

Good idea,
My Pal has a GS and we all have trouble keeping with him on the twisties, hes an ex motorcycle cop and an extremely good rider, never looks as if he's going fast, very smooth, but the GS is a great all rounder, put 020's on it though.

If you are both riding to the "vanishing point" or "limit point" (whatever you want to call it), it doesn't matter what bike it is you are following, you should be able to keep up.
We are all riding to the limit point arn't we ??
