I was think building it myself entirely in concrete block with the odd glass brick here and there.

Been very pleased with one we bought from Wickes. 3.5 x 5.5. About £6k. Not the cheapest but we put it up carefully and it still doesn't leak. dl

What about ones the companies build for you??

I would stick to a small company rather than one of the larger ones.
Try to get a recomendation from a happy customer.
The wickes ones are good for the money and they can usually supply details of approved installers (I am one!)
Or you could try going direct to a manufacturer with detailed plans and measurements.

Edited - Forgot, he's just started an in-house company that sprays the profile any colour you want, so the conservatory doesn't have to be white!
