Is it worth the hassle, grief, scammers and timewasters to advertise your bike on ebay? i know its the wrong time of year but i really need to create some space and one of the bikes lost :(

Any experiences of anyone else doing this appreciated. also apart from the trader/local press anywhere else worth using for advertising purposes?

Ebay worked for me. I sold my old ZX6R via Ebay, I might have been lucky though as I had no scammers, emails from Nigeria, timewaters etc etc. Bloke came down from Scotland ( I live in Cheshire ) to have a look, paid cash there and then...

You can advertise it on the MotorbikesToday forum for free. Where are you - depending on what the bike is we might be able to do a little advertorial - we do a used bike test and then add at the end that this fine example is for sale etc etc...

You could try writing it yourself if you like - we get free content and you get a free ad read by over 150,000 people a month :) Drop me a line if you want to discuss it.

I kinda bought mine on ebay.

I saw the advert, called the guy, went to see the bike and then paid cash.

Expect a stupid offer or two thou matlow, especially if its a mainstream sportsbike.

Good luck anyway.

if you use it carefully you can set loads of feature like revoking users with minus feedbacks or not from the UK etc and thus prevent dudes from Africa placing false bits on your machine.

Just got to spend some time wording it right to.

I'v sold two cars and my CBR 600 on ebay, no probs. Just remember the rules. No test runs without all the cash. Offer people to come and see helps as some will offer you your price there and then if its a good deal. And its never worth arguing over 50 quid.
Good Luck, or offer for free here

Sold my blade on there 18 months ago.
Put it up for sale twice. The first time there was no interest, no sale (Nov '94) . Winter is a bad time to sell (just ask any dealer when they tell you your bike is worth half what it should be, can't sell bikes now mate...etc...)

Then the second time (Mar '05):
A dealer bought it after the auction, although previously during the auction he had asked "how much i would take?".
To which i replied "make a bid".
He met my reserve minus £100 after the auction (contacted me through my email reply to him).
So i sold minus the £100 i really wanted for the bike.

I also sold my car on there (Golf vr6) a year ago (for my scoob). COD, no problems.

Also bought a Busa earlier this year from Ebay.
Fantastic bike, can't complain (I love it to bits  ).

The key is to remember that you are dealing with people you cannot see, so just be careful about how the financial transactions are dealt with.
Be fastidious with your assumptions about the people you are dealing with and you should have no problems.
