View Full Version : Problems with Radio reception

I recently fitted a new stereo to my Jap import (classic STi 6). I removed the original double DIN Subaru monstroisty and replaced with a cheap Pioneer unit.

My problem is that the radio reception is all over the place. When I tune to a station such as Radio 1 I usually get a bad reception and sometimes I get Radio 2 over the top. This happens consistently in various locations that I drive through.

Sometimes browsing through the FM band it'll pick up stations at strange frequencies (eg, Radio 1 at 89.xx )

I can't work out what is wrong - but think it might be one of two things

1) The Pioneer unit is broke

2) A frequency extender was installed to be able to use the original radio and that is still in the car now.

The problem with (2) is that I didn't see anything when I installed the Pioneer unit. So I wonder if such a device is installed at the aerial end??

Any idea folks on what these symptoms mean?

m8...if the frequency extender is still there, that will be your problem.

The extenders normally live on the stereo end attached to the aerial cable with connected to the live/ignition wire.

Found the little bugger! :)

It was hiding in the boot behind the rear wheel arch. Have removed it and it all works well.
