View Full Version : Any Plumbers?? Strange Problem!?

Ok,
This may be straight forward to a plumber, but I'm very confused  :(

I live in a flat. The hot and cold water is supplied to the block communally. We have a hot water tank, but just for the heating.

The problem is with the shower. There is a tap to turn the shower on and a tap to adjust the temperature. Strangely, I think the tap that controls the temperature is compromising the hot water in our flat. When it is set to stone cold... we have hot water everywhere.

Now, even without turning the shower on!! If you just turn the temperature tap up you get a funny rushing water sound from the pipework in the wall of the shower... and all the water in the flat goes cold.
If you do have the shower on the same thing happens, if the tap is set to cold, the hot water in the flat is fine, turn the temp up and you get that strange sound and all the water goes cold in the flat, and it stays cold in the shower :(

I'm getting sick of not being able to have my morning shower... before I call someone in to have a look... are their any thoughts as to what could be happening?!!? I'm at a loss :brickwall

where is your cold water fed from? given you are in a block, i guess its a pumped shower, it may be your shower thats fauty, is it a single cold feed shower, or a dual hw&cW type? it may be when you open the thermostatic mixer, your just turning the hot water side to cold, you need to get a plumber, or a sparks to confirm its not the shower

Nope, the block is smallish. We didn't need a pump when we had the shower fit as the pressure from both feeds was strong...
The shower is only a year old and not being a fancy pump one I don't really know what could be wrong

I'll check it is single or dual... I only remember a cold and hot feed when it was fit.

Only joking m8, but I find it funny that a guy with a Polish sounding username is asking plumbing questions! :lol1:

Hope you get your shower sorted soon! :thumb:

Heheh, I'm afraid my surname is as polish as I get :) My plumbing/painting/building expertise has been very much diluted I'm afraid :( Mind you, I'm wicked at flat pack furniture !)

take the flow controler out (you call it temperature tap ).

and give it a clean,it will be gunked up with lime scale.

its designed to stop you scalding yourself and it could be having an effect on your hot water in the flat.
