I know these are not really recommended as first bikes after passing your DAS. Yet what would you go for out of the two?

Yes it does have to be a sports bike and I want it to last at least 2 years for the amount it costs to buy it, which is why I am also considering a 750. I honestly don't think I will get bored of a 600cc, but everyone raves that the 600's have no torque which is what got me thinking of the 750. I suppose I could ride this bike very carefully until I got use to it, but then again I don't want to hold my self back learning and be afraid to nail it anywhere. Besides how fast can you go on a road, surely a 600 will be more than enough and you will have more satisfaction from pushing it harder within your own abilities..?

I think I have answered my own question with a 600cc being the better and safer option, yet what does everyone else think or have done? Even though the 750cc is the best part of a grand dearer, it is only £200 more to insure, which makes it appealing.

An almost pointless question and poll IMHO.

On the day I failed my DAS the student who I had been learning with all week, and who had ridden a 125 for a year, passed. My instructor, who knew we both had our hearts set on a GSXR 600 as our first bike, said to both of us, 1st thing that morning that I'd probably be fine on one but matey boy would be mad to even think about it. He also whispered to me that I was a shoe-in and other bloke would probably fail.

I passed a few weeks later and bought one.

Met matey boy a few weeks back and he had a nice shiney red an black with huge chicken strips that he bought a few days after passing. Mine has been through 2 back tyres and my knee sliders were scraped within a fortnight of passing my test.

A few days later I binned mine at 15mph.

There is nothing slow about a Gixer 600 dude.
I have one and it is more than fast enough, especially if you have only just passed. As for no torque, rubbish! Get it in the power band and it sings... not a lot to be gained from the 750 apart from higher top end... I think the 160mph top end of the 600 will be more than enough for a newbie.

Mine is my first bike, I did my DAS and I havent binned it.. go careful and it will be fine. When you have nothing more to learn on the 600, then move up..but it will take you at least a couple of years before you have more ability than the bike :thumb:

if your going to make a mistake your going to make one, that it. Both those bikes are the mutts, K6 750 is the best yet. And all 600 are made for having good sensible fun on. But would sujest you save a bit and get an older bike. K6, thats a lot of money for a first bike when you have a whole lot of learning to do. 3000 grand should pick you up a 600 to zip about on for a year or two. Make your mistakes that. Then look for something new.
Saying that if you have the money its not an issue, 1 lucky you, 2 also look at the new R6, quite fantastic:) Happy shopping

I should add that my 15mph binnage was nothing to do with the bike. 'Twas a moron in a car and me finding myself unable to stop (bigger moron on a bike ;)).

One bike is fast the other even faster.
Some people are are competent and skilled others not so, or they may just take longer to reach the same level. Equally variable is an individuals self-restraint.
Bad luck/**** or brain fade happens.

A poll and advice from people who have never seen you ride isn't really worth much.

600 easy...tbh any new 600 sports bike + newbie is pointless as you will not be anywhere near it's limits, or even be able to appreciate what you have...

...on the other hand its your money, life etc do what ya like.

Seriously though, theres some really nice 2/3 year old 600's that would be way cheaper, still pretty, and utterly unbelievabley fast to a newbie.

p.s. fancey having no experience and shiney new tyres on a shiney new gix...

...i can see another "ouch" post

Would you really be able to tell the difference between a 2/3 yr old GSXR and a new one - theres probably alot of experienced riders here who couldn't.

Why not get a 2/3 yr old bike (still a hell of a machine) that has taken the depreciation hit, run it for a couple of years get some experience and if you want to change after this time get a new 750 or 600 K8 - you'll also have a couple of years NCB to off set the cost plus you would have made savings in the meantime by running a slightly older bike.

something like an early K series gix (there are loads at every track day, speak volumes)

Bike Trader UK - Used Bike Search - Used Bikes for sale online. (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/bikes_search.asp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_bikes_full&photo=1&state=%27%27&sort=&make=SUZUKI&min_pr=75&source=0&model=GSXR&max_pr=&ccappr=600&agerange=2&miles=60&keywords=&mileage=&postcode=hg2+7ab&ukcarsearch_full.x=15&ukcarsearch_full.y=6)

i think it was Ride magazine who disguised various bikes then got readers to ride em and guess what they where, the results where almost comical in some cases i.e. gsx750f was mistaken for an r1....just shows ya

p.s. one guy didn't even recognise his own cbr600:lol1:

my 1st bike was a 1994 cbr 600 cant go wrong....it was quick enough and then i totalled it 4 months after buying it though i did do 4000 miles in them months so not bad.........but word of warning i spent 2.5k buying the bike and insuring it 3rd part only as full comp was rediculous so i lost my bike and 2.5k.......my advice always look at insuring a bike full comp if you cant afford buy an older one m8.

my k3 gsxr 600 has shown 167mph on the digital speedo so a 600 is fast enough imo.

even the bloke at my work who has an r1 says that a 600 is fast enough funny that whys he got an r1????

Get the 600 then get a bigger rear sprocket & have the same midrange grunt as a 750:norty:

Have a look at the BMW F800s. Taike a lot of boxes for me and i have been riding for over 10 years.

Ok its not supersport fast but iv been there and done it, you never use all the perfomance that these bike possess on the road NEVER.

Best thing for you, a decent finance deal and 250 quid fully comp insurance. I would be surprised if you got change from 1500 for a gsxr600 comp and 2000 from the 750

from personal experience I find it's better getting a bike that's faster than you are.

you'll get bored of a 600 (if you ride it enough) within a month - been there got the t-shirt.

If you're doing a lot of road riding the 750 will be best.

I've got the Gixxer 1000 K6 at the moment and trying to get rid because I find it too fast!:notworthy the 750 is a happy medium.

Couldn't disagree more. You may get used to it's straight line speed but that is all.
