View Full Version : UPVC soffits, etc. Price?
douglasb 19 October 2006, 13:43 Any ideas what I would be looking at paying for replacement upvc soffits, fascia, bargeboards, etc., for a 3 bedroom detached bungalow? I realise that exact sizes will affect the cost, but I've got no idea what a ballpark price would be and don't want to get ripped off.
Also, any ideas of questions to ask suppliers/things to avoid would be welcome. (I've already worked out that if a pikey in a battered Transit with no contact number other than a mobile turns up at the door offering to "fix yer gutters, sor!" the answer is, "No!") ;)
bob269 19 October 2006, 13:54 The materials themselves are dirt cheap, i've not got our price list handy so can't quote exact figures.
RichardS2005 19 October 2006, 13:57 I'm just looking at this myself!
Had a quote of £1800 for a 3 bed semi with bay windows including guttering. I'm probably going to do it myself though with a builder friend, the plastics should be around £250-£300 for the sofits/boards as I will only be capping over.
This gives you a rough idea on price excluding fitting Eiger Plastics Ltd (http://www.eigerplastics.co.uk)
douglasb 19 October 2006, 14:15 Thanks, guys. I haven't measured the house up but based on guesstimates I think the plastics from Eiger would come to about £500. That'll be very useful when I get quotes as I'll have a good idea what the markup is and what they are charging for labour.
Don't know that I want to do this myself; depending on the price I think I'd be happier to pay someone competent to do this.
alcazar 19 October 2006, 15:19 About 18 months ago, we got our 3-bed medium to large detached, done , including guttering, downpipes etc, and including the extension, garage, utility etc for £1900, by a local company. Took them most of the day to do it.
The house is an 11m square, and the extension is a further 10m x 3m.

richardg 19 October 2006, 16:37 had our 30's semi done last week. £1,000 (incl scaffold over extension and conservatory on the rear so the fitter could get to the soffit and fascia on the rear of the house). included new half round gutters and removal/disposal of all old gutters, timber soffits and fascias. that may be a useful guide
neighbour had quote for similar (no extension/conservaotry at rear, but they haven't extended on the side so their quote included the side of the house) - £1,200
RichardS2005 19 October 2006, 17:24 That's a good price I'm paying £550 just for scaffolding (having some rendering done at the moment)! Whereabouts are you?
richardg 19 October 2006, 17:53 i was quite please with that too! friend of a friend and all that...
chelmsford - currently painting the rear of the house, whilst the scaffold is still there...
douglasb 19 October 2006, 22:23 Thanks all. A colleague mentioned that he'd had this done a few years ago and had paid about £3K, however he'd also had work done on dormer windows and roofing and had no idea how much of the cost was down to the roofing versus the upvc. Also, we had no idea what had happened to costs of this type of work in the meantime, whether or not he got a good deal, etc., etc., so your figures have been very useful. :)
wheelwright 20 October 2006, 04:08 Had a quote on 4 bed detached double garage from a large facia only company,
£7860 !!! to remove and replace all wood (not cover), best quote so far is 3k......
richardg 20 October 2006, 09:02 i would speak to a local builder or roofer rather than a specialist soffit/fascia company. that's just my peronsal view though
my neighbour mentioned the other night that he paid £1,800 for replacement soffits/fascias (removing all old material) and new gutters on his 3 bed 30's semi (front, side, attached flat roofed garage to the side and across the rear over his conservatory - ie scaffold required).
s70rjw 20 October 2006, 10:31 Had mine done last year large 4 bedroom including garage. Scaffold hire and all wood removed everything UPVC £2000. Had quotes as high as £4400.Although I went with the cheapest I only came across him as he was doing an identical house down the road and his workmmanship was excellent.
Mark C 20 October 2006, 18:41 I would work out the total distance you will be having replaced and then work out a price based on £35 -£45 per metre. This should includind supply and fit of soffits, fascias, guttering and downpipes.
Obviously this is a rough guide which will change depending on the complexity of the job.
Where in the country are you?
Hope that's of some help,
Mark.
douglasb 20 October 2006, 18:52 Thanks Mark. Quickly pacing the distance out it's about 42 metres so about £1900 (which seems to fit in with other estimates above). There are a few complicating factors such as other wooden bits that I'd want replaced, but I think I've now got a very good idea of a ballpark figure.
I'm in Cheshire.
douglasb 10 November 2006, 00:02 Once again, thanks everyone. I've had the quote and it's £1850 including VAT (and that includes replacing gutters and downpipes), so from what everyone has said I'm happy that it's a reasonable quote. There are a few other options (repointing versus tile caps) that may add to the cost, but these are decisions for me and the quotation lays out these costs.
The company have been in this business for over 20 years and were recommended to me by a local double glazing company who have been in their business for over 40 years and who didn't want the work themselves, so I have high hopes....
(Hope I'm not back on this thread in a couple of months posting tales of woe.....) :)
