What if you get a second hand unit from a trashed car?

I thought about that but I haven't looked into it. I did see a kit for sale on Findit.co.uk for £200. I've been told fitting is not a big job but don't quote me

I' ve got one from a local breaker and it was only 500 mils old pay 210 £ for it but it teaks at least a day to fit if you have don it before all the wiring is in the car and is mark with blue tap the hardest bit is getting the heater unit out and in the rest is stead forward

ALL UK supplied cars MY00 and prior a/c was fitted in the UK (normally at the point of sale, when the car was registered), not when the car was built at the factory.

Latterly they were fitted by a company called Coolair on behalf of the dealers. I am not aware of any dealers doing their own a/c fit, but I may be wrong - so no point in going to a dealer because they will just call Coolair in - may as well contact Coolair direct if you go for a new a/c fit.

If you go for s/h, and the unit is a couple of years old or more, remember you will probably have to add a refrigerant change to the price (IIRC it's in the service schedule after the car is two years old ) - and it's not cheap.

If you take one from a breaker you will always have to refill the gas and the oil it was 50 £ for it
