ScoobyJawa 16 October 2006, 19:54 Hmmmm - looks to me like the biker was on the brakes heading for the layby from the outside lane  BedHog 16 October 2006, 20:12 I have to agree - certainly looks like the biker pulled across. The car was braking when it first came into view. His fault or not, glad he was ok. unclebuck 16 October 2006, 20:22 Looks like the bike rider failed to check his mirror before pulling in. He won't do that again. :( Amazing how far the machine gets punted down the road  Geddon 16 October 2006, 20:31 OWWWWWW:( CrisPDuk 17 October 2006, 09:05 Looks like the bike rider failed to check his mirror before pulling in. He won't do that again. :( Amazing how far the machine gets punted down the road  That's what it looked like to me too:( The back wheel will have wound itself up under the cars bumper and fired the bike forward like a catapult:eek: brybusa 17 October 2006, 13:04 Nasty! Hope he's OK brickboy 17 October 2006, 13:37 But what's the legality there? The bike is in the inside lane when the car hits it, so in effect it seems the car has hit it from behind .... which would make it the car driver's fault? graham22 17 October 2006, 13:57 This was on the local (Devon/Cornwall) news & the rider was 'used' to encourage the use of proper clothing etc & for the police bike training program. During the interview it was not said if he or the car driver were prosecuted or whether either had to attend any training courses - unless the biker 'helping' police with their promotion was his 'driver correction'. But as already said, it does look like the bike rider was drifting into the lay-by. (It's these slow moving bikers that give us a bad name!). I was all up for attending this bike training scheme (forgot what it called) but I was pulled by the police who were doing a VOSA check (on Lorries & Bikes only) and had to endure a half hour lecture as to how dangerous my slightly undersized numberplate was and that he had no option other than to give me a £60 fine - all this from a police bike rider who reckoned he ran the training course. I told him because of his attitude I wouldn't bother doing it - honestly the bloke was an idiot, traffic cops are normally OK if you're OK too, and before you ask (yes I know I'm ranting now) I was very cool, polite, both me & missus were wearing leathers, both of us in our 30s, the VOSA chap glanced over the bike & said all was OK - the copper even tried to persued the VOSA bloke that my E-marked can was illegal. Even my missus who has never been stopped by the police before couldn't believe his anti-bike attitude. To make it worse it started to pee down & we missed the shop where we were going to order my boy's pushbike for christmas (just as well spent the money on the fine instead - not really). Sorry to rant but seeing this video clip just fuels peoples 'bikes are dangerous' attitude. CrisPDuk 17 October 2006, 13:57 But what's the legality there? The bike is in the inside lane when the car hits it, so in effect it seems the car has hit it from behind .... which would make it the car driver's fault? I think it would fall into the bounds of leaving sufficient room before pulling in front of a vehicle you've overtaken? mikeswrx02 18 October 2006, 00:43 It does look like it was the biker's fault for not looking before changing lane. At the same time i bet the driver wasnt concentrating on the road as he'd most probably checking whats going on with a police car on the hard shoulder!!! Most motorway accidents are caused when drivers checking on post-accidents too!!!! slim_boy_fat 26 October 2006, 21:05 It does look like it was the biker's fault for not looking before changing lane. Saw the layby too late or thought he could overtake and cut back in in time. One of those "can I or can't I manage it in time" moments. He chose the wrong option. Glad he got away with it. Mark Miwurdz 26 October 2006, 23:08 Nice to see the lady cop waddling indelicately (probably because she put her legs on upside down when she got up in the morning; a.k.a. cankles) up the hard shoulder whilst the old lag stubs his ciggy out (just off shot) and downs his bacon sarny (also off shot) to report an RTA.
