View Full Version : removing swirls by hand
stevebennett 15 October 2006, 17:32 Is it possible to remove minor swirls by hand?
I do not want to use a portacable as i think this is overkill at the moment. i have looked at the some of the swissol poducts but i am not convinced of the claims.
any advice on possible products/methods
Steve
Polished Bliss 16 October 2006, 15:21 On Subaru paint a tried and trusted method is Menzerna Intensive Polish using the white side of a German Applicator Pad - it's hard work but enables a decent degree of correction, as the before and after pictures below show...

Ok, not 100%, but as good as you will get working by hand on Impreza paint. :)

Thanks for that, I had a go on my bonnet yesterday and the appearance of the swirls has reduced a lot when using red t-cut. but i am going back to polish the car tonight to see what it looks like after.
Polished Bliss 16 October 2006, 16:52 Be careful with the T-Cut - it's an aggressive product, and the abrasives don't break down in the same way that those in Menzerna polishes do. This can sometimes result in severe hazing and the addition of more defects than what are taken out. :)

I am based in Surrey so need to find a company around here!
Polished Bliss 19 October 2006, 12:15 If the swirls are minor I'd still look at doing it yourself by hand (total cost ~£30). A decent detailer will charge around £150 - £200 for a full correction detail, which is similar money to buying yourself a PC and all the associated kit. :)

wah 23 October 2006, 23:11 Car Care Products - Polish (http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/polish.html)
stevey 26 October 2006, 22:18 on reading that web site can i just use the intensive polish then a normal to give it a shine or do i need to use other polishes aswell as
Rasher 26 October 2006, 22:53 use Final polish 2
Polished Bliss 27 October 2006, 12:11 For very best results follow up Intensive Polish with Final Polish II using the same method, but that said you can go straight to your last step product (wax or sealant) after Intensive Polish without any problems (you just get a sharper finish if you use Final Polish II as well). :)
stevey 27 October 2006, 23:10 what would you reccomend as a last step product
Polished Bliss 30 October 2006, 21:51 Totally depends on the colour of your car, and what finish you want (ie wet and glossy or shiny and reflective, or a bit of both). If in any doubt read this guide...
