Hi Guys,

S30 fitted to an old 98 wrx wagon. Key fob arms and disarms the car no probs. But once in the car the key pad rarely works first time (I have key theft set up), random combinations of unlocking, arming etc follow until the bloody thing accepts a button push!

I am thinking I could try taking the key theft option off it. Can I do that using the key pad?

Any other ideas or similar expericences with a happy outcome?

I've not heard of any problems such as this before and have this feature activated on my own private car.
When you say it rarely works first time, I can only assume that the PIN is not being entered correctly all the time.

You must ensure that when you press first digit of the PIN that the LED on keypad illuminates before pressing the second digit (LED on keypad will illuminate again) etc etc.
This procedure can be performed with the ignition on or off to de-activate Key Theft Protection, although with ignition off the LED will change from solid Red to solid Green as confirmation that the feature has been de-activated and the engine can be started.
The keypad LED feedback is vital as it confirms that the alarm has accepted the input - typing the 4-digit PIN in too quickly, and missing the LED feedback for any digit means the system effectively misses a digit and sees this as an in-valide input - this is the only explanation that I can think of for the problem you describe.

It is possible to permanently de-activate the automatic Key Theft Protection feature using the keypad, although for security the feature must be de-activated (ie the engine can be started) before the programming sequence can be entered.

PM me if you still have problems and wish to deactive this feature permanently and I'll give you the programming sequence.
