View Full Version : What the hell is my boiler doing?

1 year old Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30cdi Conventional.

Well, it's in an empty house at the moment, so I went to fire it up to make sure it would be ok for the following winter months.

I wasn't paying too much attention, but I know it did its usual routine firing up on low flame, with the condensate symbol flashing (normal - something to do with filling up the condensate trap).

Then, it decided to do an impression of a hazard light switch, burner is off, fan on low and there is a loud relay clicking on and off repeatedly along with a symbol flashing on the display. When I turned the system off at the controller, the relay continued to click and the pump started to switch on and off in time with it.

Tried reset, turning it on and off, putting it in service mode, playing with the knobs. Turning all the power off at the spur and leaving it for 10mins (in doing so I checked the wiring and connections - just make sure it wasn't anything silly, to no avail ).

This is the symbol that flashes up (alternatly with the temp - which is ambient as its not firing up ;) ):

If anyone can tell what this means (it's not in any of the manuals), and if there is an easy fix before I put hands at the mercy of a worcester bosch "engineer", it would be most appreciated.

"Air Purge Mode" matey, nothing to worry about (unless it is staying on all the time!!!) :thumb:

Will run for 15 mins before returning to normal mode (flow temp displayed)...

Cheers thanks.

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away and it's been switched off since as I didn't want to leave it like that. I haven't had the chance to follow up on it yet until today.

I'll switch it back on when I go back in and leave it to its own devices and see how it goes :thumb:

Dammit, left it on over the weekend (boiler on, pump pulsing away, with controller on CH=Off HW=off ).

And its STILL doing it, and won't fire up if I switch on the demand. Plus there is no air in the system anyway. :cuckoo:

Looks like I need to make a few phone calls :(

These boilers come with a 2 year parts and labour warranty, give Worcester Bosch a call... :thumb:

Yup, looks like I will have to, just I don't have any paperwork.

Which in this age of rules and regs conerning new(ish) installs could be a problem, so I'm hoping they'll won't ask for any and just go by the serial number (providing if it was ever registered - which I wouldn't know).

Thanks anyway :)

You may well have a problem if it isn't registered and it may well be worth checking with CORGI if it was or not (especially if you know who installed it).

If something was ever to happen and the boiler wasn't commissioned properly and registered with CORGI, your house insurance would be null and void. :Whatever_

Give Worcester Bosch a ring first and go from there... :thumb:

Oh it was corgi installed and comissioned, that I do know.

Just don't know if the paperwork side of things was correctly done, you know what some of them can be like, they have the qulaifications, paid to be registered, and can do the work fine. But when it comes to paperwork, it can be another story. So I can't be sure if it is just been misplaced, or just was never done out of sheer laziness.

Will find out sooner or later though ;)

Worcester Bosch are a good company and I'm sure warranty paperwork or not you will get a resolve!!! :D
