View Full Version : Blackpool WTF happened ???
pimmo2000 07 October 2006, 23:52 The meeting place was ok, the people very polite... needed more food and toliets though.. Overal VERY well done.. Thank you
The path to the Lights sucked ass :lol1: I think the cars I was following went the wrong way, round all these houses, then after an hour or so most gave up hope of getting though lights, I jumped down the side roads and came out near the tower, followed the blue sport for a bit then went to the end meeting place...
We need a better time for the run its just too busy..
Pics tomorrow camera is in the car
*Sonic* 08 October 2006, 00:12 One of the reasons I havent gone to this event now the second year on the run
Hats off to the organisers for the job they do, however getting through the lights itself, seems to let this down every year, but you can never tell just how busy it is going to be until you get there, as the following night there might not be anyone around and have a clear run through
The meeting points have been good in the past, and the banter, people etc all been good, but its a long way to go just for an hour meeting in a big car park to come all the way home again, and not run through the lights
Also now have 3 children to consider, and having them in the car, and not being able to stop for toilets etc, being so late at night, and stuck in a traffic jam burning my clutch up, is an evening I would rather not go through
Again though, sadly it is nigh on impossible to judge the traffic through the lights, which sort of does spoil it when it does turn out to be bad
Hope it wasnt all that bad though, and that plenty of money was raised
Jasoon 08 October 2006, 00:26 I must agree The path to the Lights was poor........
seanks 08 October 2006, 00:30 Third year in a row I've gone in the wagon, yeh it was a rat run from scoobytecnix to the lights. Followed Big G and came out near the roundabout but wanted the kids to see all the tableauxs??, so double back met a few other wanders and finally popped out near the Norbreck (oh thanks to the couple of scoobs already on the prom who stopped and let all of us out 8D) and with John and the flamer Rob nine of us I think (provided a fair amount on his own with that exhaust of his 8¬) ). Had good journey through, kids loved it (espeacially my 2 year old, as first time he's seen the lights)
With so many roundsabouts and traffic lights between the meet up point and the lights, never going to get a solid line of scoobs through to the lights. Cheers and thanks to Frank and John and all others who organised the night.
cheers
Sean
pimmo2000 08 October 2006, 00:45 yeah, just to make sure everyone gets what I mean, the people who set this up are amazing, I couldn't do anywhere near the job they do
Its just bad luck again

Thanks very much for the comments mate, we have put heaps of effort into yesterday, especially after a few sleepless nights following a break in on thursday night, so tried to get garage and everything else in order for you all to come,
The route to the lights could have been better planned in all honesty, but it seems to be busier each year,
Cheers,Andy= scoobyteknix
Criss 08 October 2006, 10:58 I dunno! Had a guy from sheffield infront of me (nice to meet you) and the couple who were carbon fibre mad :notworthy :notworthy Im not a fan of bugs but yours was the dogs :thumb:
Our own little detour left at norbreck hotel was a good decision :thumb:
I got sick of waiting and my clutch was smelling abit and the engine was getting abit warm.
So off we went to the meeting place, decided to pull back in on the lights and entertain everyone with the flames (who was that bloke walking on the path going do it again, he was a loony :cuckoo: )
Thanks to the guy who lent me the electric pump for my tire :thumb:
Engine decided to start misfiring very badly like it had no fuel on the way home :( So stuck at 48 mph from blackpool to sandbach :(
Got off, booted it, all is well. Must have been very hot in the bay from me reving in traffic :cuckoo:
Different route next time and go abit slower from the meeting place to the lights, that de-tour through the housing estate was :cuckoo:
John WRX 08 October 2006, 11:12 As posted in the other thread, a big thank you to everyone who made it possible.

Are you serious? You never expected so many people? Did you not read the thread where over 130 people had posted there intention to attend? :D
Love the "staff toilet" sign btw, kept the queue down for that side anyway :D

we try and keep the loos as clean as possible!
lordharding 08 October 2006, 11:45 Fantastic night as always
met up with the TTS boys at tebay and had a great little fun convoy down the M6 totally taking up all the lanes and weaving in and out then wewere ambushed at J36 by the mighty scooby Roo at 523 pm apologies for being 7 minutes early :D:D
he then took us all out great fun as we looked up and saw him parked on the bridge above all flashing our lights in unison at the Great one !!
followed the sat system although my own basic map and lead foot would im convinced get us there quicker :D:D
great fun at the meeting point and the start up of 150 scoobs were deafening
great convoy untill the red wrx ANz### lost us through a housing estate so with 20 behind we had analternative route and thanks to ##jlo got us to the tower great fun through the lights for an hour and we actually parked up on the front to watch many scoobys going past
fantastic night all the fun is the heavytraffic and getting lost and raising a good wack for charity
lordharding
who is now planning the NBO5 and thanks to JohnWRX who has to do the BBO for another 10 years contract
redwrx 08 October 2006, 12:10 Firstly, i'd like to say a massive thankyou to John (wrx) for all the effort he has put in to organising this event this year, and also to AndyD.
When you consider the NBO, its a massive venue, with all the facilities you need...you get a full day to meet up, chat shat etc.traffic problems are near non existant..(the NBO is a fantastic event)
Now compare the BBO.......... finding the right meet point, to hold approx 100 cars, remembering that not all who post definately attend. then you need toilets, a food outlet etc .That in itself takes some doing .........then the biggest part of the fun is to try (emphasise 'try) to get 100 plus cars into the lights traffic and thru them ..a bit different than trying to get 400 cars onto a field thats used all year round. Put all the cars end to end and you have a potential queue 2 miles long, excluding anyone else. Then you've got to get permission from blackpool tourism, and the local police .the list goes on
Put all of that into context ..........the only thing that cant be legislated for is the volume of traffic itself...in Blackpool. So unless this event is run midweek, which then no-one would attend .so do it late at night, that rules out kids .do it sunday ....no saying it wont be like saturday..sadly there is no easy solution.
Consider that the BBO is probably one of the biggest single make meets in the country - excluding cruises., and ever year its got bigger ...... year 1 - 106, last year 117 .this year a massive 147.
Yeh, unfortunately the departure from the meeting point wasnt as controlled as it could/should of been, and it got broke up, people getting lost within the first mile.... maybe thats what makes it such fun. I ended up stopping on the route to the lights, because i couldnt see anyone behind the queue following me.. i stopped, and waited, and then when i got to the lights i got stuck , like everyone else, unfortuantely i had to be home for 10.30, and so i never even got into the lights before i turned off for home.
Once again, put it into perspective , of what this event achieves ...147 scoobs in one venue, coming from all over the country, trying to get through what probably is the busiest road in the country ...... and it raises a vast sum of money for childrens charity ..... the kids we've raised money for can only dream of owning the cars we have the pleasure of getting stuck in a traffic queue, or lost in ....
Once again . a massive thankyou to all that gave their time ......the main organisers - John, and Andy, everyone that helped out ....and to you, the people who supported us.
Frank

Absolutey spot on Frank (the original BBO master!!!)
without your idea 3 years ago this would not be the event it is now,
Thanks Frank, Best wishes,Andy
shaun222 08 October 2006, 16:42 It was all great but we all need to get to the lights in 1 group instead of 25 groups, then all start down.Perhaps get the police to let us in.Its not as if we can go mad with all those cameras.
nathanb 08 October 2006, 16:53 What you driving Shaun? I may have seen you last night or round Wrexham??
It was ace but bigger convoys down the illuminations would have been amazing!!
Sc00by_Si 08 October 2006, 19:39 Enjoyed the day out except for the dodgy convoy to the Norbreck:confused:
Ended up seeing the lights at several different points then leaving and joining further down which worked quite well as we saw loads of Scoobs on the way down and the clutch didn't suffer too much. A quick stop at Maccie Ds then home. Well done John and everyone else involved -m looking forward to the next one
Blingscooby 08 October 2006, 21:51 Excellent night had by all, much better than last years meet up point as we didn't have a food outlet or toilets.
Well done to Andy and everyone else who was involved in organising such a great event.
Kris.
