Hi.

Going to Walall Illuminations at the weekend, and have not long got myself the Canon 400d. Not really taken pics of lights in the dark, so just a few helpful pointers would be greatly recieved.

Still learning about DSLR functions, as used to a point and click.

Any helpful camera settings would be great. (must get myself on a course!!)

Thanks in advance.

A tripod, a slow shutter speed and targets that stay still :)

As above, but as for target that stay still, well, moving buses, cars, trams and people make for very interesting pictures at night!

Use a smallish aperture to get those star effects on lamps and for large depth of field (unless of course you want to isolate your subject)

Anyway, you can take shot after shot after and not worry about wasting any pics.

Oh I don't know... moving lights can be good. :) But a tripod is an absolute must!

You may well be right, but when he said illuminations, I thought of Blackpool.

Thanks for the help. The illuminations are (i think) mainly static, but there are some laser shows.
