Our old (30+ yrs) c/h boiler works fine , but has very basic controls. There is a temperature setting dial and a Potterton timer on the wall to control the hours of on/off for c/h and h/w.
Would it be possible to have a control unit that could regulate a different temperature for the c/h and h/w ? If the c/h is on then it is very warm but turning the water temp'down also cools the domestic h/w supply. The only other way I can cool some rads whist keeping others warm is the use the valves on the rads themselves but it is not very easy as they tend to be on or off, fine regulating is virtually impossible.
Hope that this makes sense.
Thanks

I've added a room thermostat that allows you to set times for 3 times perday (on/off) 7 days a week. That way you just leave the boiler CH control in the 'on' position and the room thermostat actually turns the heating on and off. I've also added thermostatic valves to most of the radiators.

This way means you don't have to change too much. I should also change the boiler to w new *more efficient* one but to be honest I'll wait until the present one gives up the ghost. Or gets to the point where I can get my money back in reduced bills in a year or so ...

You could also have a digital programmer, which allows different time settings for hot water and heating, and even different settings for each day of the week, or week days and weekend.

AFAIK, a lot of them are plug and play onto the old wiring, but if yours is VERY basic, they nay not be so easy.........
