If it were mine ;) - move the model across to her left so that the fireplace is shown complete and her right hand is directly below the edge of the fireplace, shoot square on so the floor/skirting is level, and ensure the candles are vertical ( the candle growing out of her shoulder :nono: :D).

I'd also be inclined to stand the guitar against the wall either on her left or on the other side of the fireplace, although this may look too false and contrived - its not bad where it is but its not immediately obvious, fine if thats how you want it.

Just my 2p's worth - nice pic

Noted mate and will be tried. Problem is space. Just to her left is a set of immoveable cupboards. Each side of that fire place is about 2 feet of wall. Not alot of space, but I'll try.

GarethE

No room for the guitar against the wall then :D Its always a problem with lack of space in homes, always something in the way happens to me all the time - so I know where you're coming from.

Its because the square fireplace is such a strong feature in the shot and it contains the candles you need to see the whole thing.

Yeah, these were really trais to see if our ideas worked. And I have to say that they do, very well.

Love the fireplace, but maybe try her sat across it with her legs below?:wonder:

Maybe a little higher viewpoint, just to see the guitar better? Possibly a bit more of the floor in the foreground, as it reflects well. A bit more of the hair helps too :)

Only suggestions, it's your shoot after all :thumb:

I need a Zigview!!! The camera was on the floor for this and controlled off the lappy (yeah, yeah posh git!!! I know)

I'll have a few more to show when she's seen them. Mostly covering what you've just said :D

CharlieWhiskey

I've got one :thumb: it was bought for when you can't get near the veiwfinder but not used it much outdoors as it's usually easy enough to get behind the camera.

It would be better if the camera part detached from the screen on a cable, I think there is a new one coming out soon that does that :wonder:

I just need a wasit level view finder!!! Bit like an old MF. I can controll everything but focus off the computer.

CW, which version have you got? Does it give you a "live" feed of what the cameras seeing. Ie if you move the camera doe sthe image move in real time?

CharlieWhiskey
29 September 2006, 22:13
Yep, mine is the basic Zigview, it's basically a video camera, so as near live as you would need unless you are shooting something moving. it has an adjustable shutter speed & zoom and you can alter the frame boundaries to suit the camera, orientation etc.

Just tried it looking at the tv and the frame rate rate is slightly less than video, with a slight delay, dependant on which AE setting it is on. It's nothing you would notice on a near stationary subject. It also has a Hold function so you can freeze a view. It also has a B&W mode so could preview your pics in monochrome too :thumb:

Sounds exaclty what I need. For the shot above I was having to use my left eye to compose up cos I couldn't get my face behind teh camera.

Oh well there goes more money!!!

Guess what I'll be doing whilst I'm in work tomorrow :D

Deffo open to suggestions for Classic model shots. Think those ideas will work well for her.

For the stuff you're doing, a dose of Bailey from the 60s would be good. Actually, I think Bailey is good from any era. You'd like his 'Trouble and Strife' too - might give you some ideas to Toy with :norty:

If you can get a copy of 'Goodbye Baby and Amen' by Bailey (published around 1972 I think, I'll buy it off you when you're done ;) Fab book.

Richard.

85 quid for an old paperback - ouch!

He also did a boxed set of prints which, I think, formed the basis of the book. A decent box goes for several grand

If the box and contents are in good nick and still cotains the lyth print of the hand scrawled note then they go for the low 5 figures

Trouble and Strife has got a lot of pics using ring flash as I recall, which was trendy at the time and still looks damn good. Or is it that his missus was just a bit gorgeous :norty: Would suit Toy methinks.

If Goodbye Baby is full format (A3 I think originally) I'd pay 85 quid even for a paperback, but only because I'm old and sentimental ;)

1 of the guys has been doing a search for me on Goodbye, and found it priced as high a £1200

Simon

If ya want some studio time, and a lesson in model composure, give us a shout.

But why do you want to capture on the pc mate? Its so restricting, the way to photograph people is to move around them to find the best angles, whilst instructing the model to move as you require. Also, you need to set your auto focus on the eyes and then frame the shot.

Paul:)
