I have an old manual flash here and a TTL 1. If I connect teh Non ttl 1 through the sync cord port, would I still run the rish of damaging the camera?

Depends on the sync voltage your flashgun uses. A modern flash typically uses 5v or less, whereas older ones could be 100v or more which may well damage the camera.

You can get a device called a Wein SafeSync which connects between your camera and flash and protects against this risk.

What's a TTL 1? Never heard of it.

Simon, if you don't know the synch voltage of the manual gun and it's a Nikon, let me know the model number and I'll check in the Nikon Flash Guide and see if there are any details there about it.
